At what Cost though...?

Sure of course the AMG looks better - but then with the premium you pay for AMG would you really expect anything less?

I prefer the AMG rims. They're one of THE most beautiful ones which exist, except I'd take mine in single color silver (not powder coated darker on the spokes).

AMG Wheels

Which AMG wheels are those? Are they the ones you get with the 030 Perf Package? Or can the be ordered separately?

One thing we do not like about the SLK55 is the 'thin spoke' wheels that comes standard. We do both like the wheels in the Perf Package but don't know that we want to spend an extra $7K 'just for upgraded wheels'. (Sidetrack - Yea, we know you get more, but really - when are we ever gonna get it above 120mph, much less the AMG standard of 155mph or the Perf Package 176mph. And without all that speed, what will the bigger brakes or extra suspsension really do for us). Anyway, we are looking at wheel options and so far, it's probably going to be a 3rd-party retailer for new chrome wheels after we find an SLK55.

I'd like them a lot better without all the lumpy bits around the rim though.

You can get them in monoblock design without the 'screws' around the rim. The old SLK 32 AMG had rims like that standard on it.

06' SLK55 w/030 pack
030 package w/ wheels and brakes are needed when your up on the top end - your V-1 chirps and then you smile and say- thank AMG for those brakes and wheels.

the dealer said it isn't recommended to use any other rims , just the optional AMG rims or the 030 package... any thoughts?

B/c of he big brakes that comes with the AMG models, most wheels don't fit that's why it's not recommend. Most will need spacers. That's why you go with custom made HRE, Iforged, DCR, and DPE's. I go with those than the AMG's, lighter, stronger, looks much better IMO.

IF this is an SLK 55 the the wheels are for sure 19's!! There is much more space between caliper and wheel than in the 030 or non 030....so it has to be a 19" ( I think....)
