New SLK55 Faster than SL600
Curious what you SLK55 guys think about this. A person who lives down the street from me recently bought a new SLK55 (which both looks and sounds quite nice), but he has been ranting about how powerful his car is and thinks it is faster than my Renntech modified SL600.
I have never been drove an SLK55, so I don't know. What do you guys think.

I wish....but no...you should be low 12's to possibly high 11's while slk55 stock is probably mid to high 12's...

That's sort of what I thought
That's sort of what I thought.
I have very little track experience, but the last time I ran a 1/4 mile, I was 11.958 @ 120.27mph. I rented a track in Gainesville for a day this next month, to see exactly what my car is really capable of doing.
Anyone else who is nearby who wants to join in for the day, email me.

I dont know what kind of crack your neighbor is smoking, but there is no way in hell he can hang with you unless he slaps a supercharger on his SLK55, and even then, I still wouldnt take any bets.

I don't know
I don't know where he is getting his thoughts about this from. Maybe I should be polite and let him show me on a nice open stretch one day.

It all depends how you drive the car... of course on track it will lose to the sl600, but on the road, an slk has the agility, pace, and pure slk passion to win over so called scared drivers.
example; My oldere brother just received him GT3 porsche and I took it around London, where I was on a freeway, a Modena was playing with me.. I didnt want to risk any messing up of the car, but he was just a little bit too ****y... like your friend.. so its the way you drive the car.
On track; an sL600 is superior,
on terrain; the driver makes the win.

Which type of GT3 did your brother get one of the last 996 models?

SLK 55 AMG
With a supercharger on the SLK, it will eat the SL600. That's a fact. We're talking about 4, or even sub 4 second times 0-60mph.
A stock SLK 55 might do better on an auto-x course or a track, since it's lighter and can take corners quite well. But the SL600 will win on a drag race no problem (unless you really mess up during a launch... almost impossible to do with an automatic gearbox).
Just go find a nice empty spot and swap cars for a 5-10 minute drive around the countryside. That should give him and you a better idea of what the cars are capable of.

The SLK55 engine IS the SL55 engine isn't it? the only real difference being the SLK doesn't have the supercharger/turbo that the SL does.
