DVD player in slk

Hi Guys,

just got my slk amg 55 , just awesome , however can anyone on here advise
how to disable the safety feature on the DVD , that turns off the player when the car goes starts moving? the pro logic sound is fantastic spent an hour
in the garage watching revenge of the sith with my son at the weekend.

its illegal here to run a DVD in the front , but so is doing what i do in the car
virtually every time i drive it

is it a MB dealer job ? or is there a hidden "cheat"?

any advice welcome

Brabus can modify it for you and remove the lock, so can your dealer. Brabus will charge you a few hundred bucks for it, your dealer might tell you that they cannot do it for legal reasons.

So you eat fast food with one hand, talk on your cellphone with the other, and watch a movie while you're speeding and tailgating and cutting in and out of lanes with your kid in the car or what?

Sounds like you're in Europe. I believe it is just a dealer job, could be wrong.

I am getting my Euro Command next monday and expect to crash a week later. Wish me luck

Will the Navigation DVD player in the trunk play regular DVDs?

Your in-dash player should do the job. On US based players you will not be able to see video but only hear it.

If by "play" you mean get the video, run it thru a mpg decoder, put it on the Nav Video screen, get the audio and run it thru the Dolby decoder and pipe to the soundsystem. Then, NO.

You have "more" of the system required in the in-dash CD Player (which is really a DVD drive). There at least the audio is grabbed and decoded into the soundsystem.

What is missing from the COMAND system in the US, is the video decoder circuitry. It is never in the actual physical drive electronics.

My understanding is that you have to have the euro-command headunit. It can be ordered from the factory, even on a US car, or changed-out after the fact ($1300-2000 USD?). There may be other manufacturer/aftermarket options out there for you, I don't know.
