Largest Tires possible for stock 030 rims?

Anyone know what the largest width I can go to on the front and rear rims of the 030 package?

See the tire/wheel fitment guide at

http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tires...sproductid=227

for detailed info on many tire sizes. Although it is specifically for a Bridgestone S-03, I believe it applies to all tires. The recommended wheel size for 235/ 40x18 is a 8.0 wheel, but you can probably push this a bit with a 7.5 wheel without too much problem. For 255/35x18 the minimum width listed is 8.5, so you should be OK there.

WRT clearance, I don't think there is any problem with a slightly larger tiere in the rear. But in the front I'd make sure that the wider tire does not rub on the inside against the shock tower. There is not a lot of clearance there so you might need some thin wheel spacers. However, with a wheel spacer you may need to roll the fender lip and you will need longer lug bolts. My only real complaint with the '05 SLK (55 at least) is the marginal tire size of the tires and the lack of clearance for larger tires.

One comment that I should add: alot of tuners don't go with a wider than OEM front tire on the large front engine MBZ's claiming that it only adds to the 'push' or understeer -- ie. can go wider in rear, and probably should by 10mm at least, but leave the fronts alone....

Really?!

I've always thought that wider front tire would simply give better traction and therefore reduce understeer. I wanted to go 235/35/19 on front but maybe I'm better off with 225/35/19. The larger tire would add an extra .40" of width.

225 = 8.85" wide
235 = 9.25"

Yeah, really. I am not saying that I necessarily agree on the fronts as I have no personal experience with experimenting with my MBZ's on the wider fronts issue to go from. I do generally go with a 10mm wider tire on the rears though. If you think about it, your take is the logical one; but I have heard about not going with wider fronts from folks more than a few times. I just wanted to bring it up for discussion -- hopefully we'll hear some butt-o-meter evidence from those who have experimented with wider fronts.

thats what it did on my car (clk55 and my old m3 and my previous car b4 the m3 94 e500, i was running 235 front on all of them), improved turn in response and more traction and resistance to understeer through out the corner, especialy at the beginning right after turn in.

im running 235/3519 and 275/30 19 on my clk55
stock sizes were
225 and 245 17

was running 235 and 255 on my m3
and 235 and 265 18 on my 124 e500

I know a friend that uses 265/35/18 on his w/o any problems. I'm thinking about going that size now as I have 255/35/18 PS2's.
