Should I remove the stock Catalytic converters?

Only if you are replacing the entire exhaust system including the cats. The last turn before the muffler is very restricted. I think there are 2 cats.
Cheers

Before I bought Kleemann muffler. I removed secondary cats + resonator and did straight pipe. The car gotten insanely louder, you could feel better exhaust flow and performance. Well, I did like the girgle and drones so I replaced mine.
If you looking for better flow and louder exhaust noise, removing cats would definitely help. Very easy job, just need welding.

Zaint , Does it sound good ?
I dont want it to sound bad like a Camaro or an American car that makes funny noises!

hmm.. I think straight pipe without secondary cat+resonator, the sound is just tooooo loud for a merc.
Other AMG without resonator might sound good but not for our slk. Our exhaust system doesn't have any cross overs (H-pipe, x-pipes) to eliminate drones and smoothen the sounding... so without cats+resonator.. it just gets freaking loud. I would suggest doing x-pipe. It some what help eliminates the drones and bad noises.

Silk32,

Nope, I changed to Kleemann muffler with rear diffusor painted two-toned.

I was told that Magnaflow does a pretty good x-pipe for a pretty reasonable price. Hope this helps.

Zaint10: When you removed the secondary cats and resonator was this with stock AMG mufflers or did you run straight pipes all the way (no rear mufflers)?

It was with AMG stock muffler. Sounds really loud and does drone pretty bad. Not recommended. I think x-pipe works like magic.

Hm... just wondering if the slk350 is the same? Would there be a catalytic converter that I remove and will make better sounds? Excuse my silliness if I am asking some dumb questions. Thanks

Can someone give me an estimate price on how much it would cost to remove all the cats, resonator, muffelers, and do welding and straight pipes, etc, etc... Thanks.

I'm not too sure how 350's exhaust system is like. But for 55, removing the cats definitely help with noise and perfomance. However, you have to bare with the slight burning fuel smells. (Not noticable when driving or idle, only when you rev it up)

I suppose none of this can be done without changing the look of the exhaust setup?

If I did it on mine, I'd probably lose my warranty, and the authorities would not like it one single bit due to this being such an **** country when it comes to auto-mods.

Removing the cats are illegal here as well. The car will not pass state inspection because of a CEL condition caused by a 'catalytic converter- efficiency below threshold fault code'.
