Break-in mileage complete, early impressions.
Well went on a little road trip (about 700km) this weekend to finish break in mileage on the car - it's been killing me not to really get on the gas yet so figured this was a good way to take care of that. The car is a great highway cruiser with very long legs! Seats were very comfortable and it was easy to adjust them to a position that allowed for putting on lots of miles without becoming fatigued. Even managed some pretty decent fuel mileage - with cruise set at 110km/hr the computer recorded an average of 8.9l/100km and with it set to 120km/hr it still returned 9.2l/100km. Not bad at all for this type of car IMO. And with the top up we were able to fit comfortably a couple medium sized softsided bags in the trunk, along with some smaller odd and ends. Overall I'm very VERY happy with this car - it turned heads the whole weekend where ever we went and never failed to put a smile on our own faces just driving it around and enjoying the great weather that we were lucky enough to have through out the trip.
Some notable points about the car:
1. Gotta love that powerful V8 engine for easy, stress free performance - point your foot to the floor and the car just flat our hauls ***! And ohhhhhh that exhaust sound!
2. Handling is great without beating you to death doing it. Personally I found the ride more than acceptable even on our pi$$ poor roads.
3. Looks - the car is stunning to look at top up or down!
Couple minor pet peeves:
1. The stock audio system is not all that great, but then I like listening to the exhaust better anyway *L*.
2. Range for remote lowering/raising the top could be better.
3. Cupholder location sucks *L*
GREAT car and we are certainly enjoying it to the fullest!
P.S. added some new shots to the Picture Thread above.

I got my gas consumption to 8.8 during my trip across europe this summer!
With a few hard accelerations in Germany, it did go to 9.2, but overall I did over 400km's on half a tank of gas
Get the Piecha remote control module for the roof, then you can open and close it with the RF signal of the key, rather then the IR. It's definitely worth it, and costs only a few hundred euros.

Interesting. Using 8.8L/100km is about 26mpg American, and 9.2L/100km is about 25mpg American. It's that good?
The specs on MBUSA put the SLK55 at 13mpg city and 21mpg highway. I don't have my car yet, but was starting to feel slightly guilty about the prospect of doing 13mpg when my current 05 C230K does about 30mpg highway. But if it turns out I get 25mpg in my SLK55, I would be extremely happy.
Any Americans with SLK55's care to share their mpg experience?

Mine is US spec but I live in Germany, right now my average is 18 mpg. That's with 6,000 miles and many of those on the autobahns either going quite fast or very slow stuck in one stau after another. It's just so much fun to drive that I have a difficult time driving mellow to see how well it can do.

On long highway trips I get 25/26 mpg. My Record was nearly 28 mpg. When driving very aggessively through canyons and the like I get about 8 mpg. Around the city, in heavy traffic I get about 11/12 mpg.

U.S. driver here.
Averaging about 22 miles per gallon when combining highway and city driving.
It's tough not to get on the throttle when a lane opens or if you are going up a really good on ramp.
The car is super and regardless of the mileage, Mercedes Benz has finally produced a REAL SPORTS CAR with the SLK.

I just completed a return trip from South East London to LLaneli South Wales and averaged around 28mpg. I took the M25 and M4 route and was really impressed as we were cruising at around 90-100mph most of the way!!! I thought it was going to be a hell of a lot worse than that!!!
