Dealer Rip-off...so what's new
I walked out 15 minutes later when they only offered me $41K for a 2005 silver SLK55 with 3800 miles in "excellent" condition with HRE premium wheels and stock wheels.

Edmunds for same is $53K.
NADA is $52K.
Can only assume KBB is screwed up for some reason, and assume the dealer ran thru all of them and picked the lowest. Can't blame he for that (for an opening offer).
You could go back and show him NADA and Edmunds and point out the KBB SLK350 is only $300 diff.

I got 42 grand in cash burning a hole in my pocket for your car right now! Seriously, that is an insulting offer, and you we're absolutely right to shake your head and walk out. My offer stands, btw

My philosophy is to NOT trade-in cars that are in good/excellent condition - it may be a bit of a headache, but in the long run you will come out THOUSANDS of dollars ahead.
No offense intended in my comment, and none taken by yours either
All kidding aside, you have to sell that car privately to get a remotely fair price. I'd be shocked if you did not get at least 50k for it ( i'd buy it for that in a heartbeat). Dealers, as always, are criminals when it comes to trade-ins.
