New SLK55, Brake Squeal
Hey everyone,
After a long 4 month wait (during which time the AMG engine-eers apparently took a summer vacation!) I've finally got my brand new '07 SLK55. I'll try to post pics later.
Question first though, been running through my first 100 mi and noticed that when coming to low-speed stops the brakes are squealing. Is this normal for a brand new set of brakes, or is something possibly wrong (like they forgot to install brake pads on one of the calipers???? :-)
Thanks!

Looking for a new toy.
It's fairly common on new SLK55's - I had it on mine, but it went away after break-in miles. A couple hard stops from speed does seem to help some.

I had that in my 07 SLK55. It didn't go away by itself even after numerous hard stops... I thought my face was going to come off - the brakes are strong.
Took it back to the dealership and they use sand paper to rough up the pads and rotors and everything is fine now.

SLK 55 AMG
Many people report this. Most performance brakes are quite squeaky, but it tends to go away over time. Mine don't make noise anymore, maybe a bit if they're wet, but that's it.
They did squeak during the first few thousand miles tho'.

Replaced on my '07
Picked my '07 SLK 55 up Aug. 18th (it was in the US for 2+ weeks before that but MBZ would not release to dealer). The brakes were noisy then and still at 1,800 miles when I took the car in for its first service. The service paper work indicates the mechanic tweaked them twice and then did a major parts replacement, across two days. They are quiet now.
Incidentally, the car also had a metalic click/clunk when it shifted between gears. The mechanics initially thought that was something in the rear brakes. Three days later they pinned it down to splined shafts in the axle not being lubricated at the factory. And this is also quiet now.
I love the car -- but MBZ quality still sucks. Even a Yugo should not leave the factory with problems like this.
