viper or slk 55
i am currently selling my crossfire and am considering these two cars(slk55 or viper(gen 2 or 3)--i would be using the car for my daily driver, and am just curious what you guys think would be a better dd and why?
i am really torn because i look at a viper and think...damn thats a nice car, but i think what if i buy this car, and it has a very expensive problem a few months later, im **** out of luck*especially since i prefer a gen 2(of course no warranty)
however, with the slk55 i would be buying a hardtop convertible, a nice looking car, and a decently powered v8, and all the aneminities i currently enjoy with my crossfire(heated seats, auto dimming mirrors, heated side view mirrors, nice sound system)
gas prices are not an issue, neither are tires, i just want your guys honest opinions which would you choose for your daily driver and why?

Lotus Elise SLK55
If you can live without traction control (tough with 500hp in the rain), a very hard manual clutch, and fairly hot cabin (extreme heat from the engine) on daily basis, Viper is great. If not, get the SLK55.

quite a bit of people over at viper alley use them as DD's some have damn near 200,000 thousand miles, but why would you guys recommend a mb slk55, or is it a you have to test drive it to understand thing

I jumped from a 2001 S430 w/aftermarket Supercharger to 2005 C6 Corvette, Makes an excellent DD, but as the rest said Viper does not = a DD in no way shape or form period.
I know a guy w/the latest Gen 3 he loves it but admits uncomfortable, hot, hard to get into-out of stif clutch etc.. It's a great perf car & very beautiful I agree 2nd gen betterlines but niether make DD.
Now your close in the money category why not get the best of both worlds grab a C6 Z06! easily doubles as DD as well as perf FREAK!

SLK 55 AMG
Fit and finish won't be as great in the Viper, but it IS a sexy car. You can't really argue with 500hp and the large displacement
But who knows, best to drive before you buy. I like how my SLK 55 drives, but I'd like to give a go in a Viper one day (not easy to find in Switzerland).

very true and sl models are a little plain to me in the style department, and I see about one a day...rarely do I see slk's or vipers...anyhow...whats the reliability like on these slk55's, and how well does mb service their warranty issues?

no real problems
I haven't notice any big problems ... tranny went in for a new software program and the only other thing I have noticed is that the rear quarterpanels have a part that needs to be replaced on quite a few SLKs. The problem is that it doesn't come all the way up to have a complete seal. In my case, it was the passenger side and it was off by approx 1/2 cm. It wouldn't leak but you could tell it wasn't coming up all the way.
I haven't had any issues with MB warranty.

Bro base price wont allow the SLK's to seem unique for long. Also the Viper is more of a rough weekend car IMO...the SLK is more of a daily. The SL55 is in between IMO, but is in a different price class. The SLK seems like the better choice for a daily.

Looking for a new toy.
I do use our SLK55 as a daily driver, and it's a pleasure to drive for that purpose. It's quiet, comfortable, has a lot of amenities, and is even relatively easy on gas (I average about 20mpg mixed driving). My wife and I just went for a weekend getaway and we had no trouble storing several soft sided bags in the trunk, along with hanging some formal wear on the rear side of the seats in the hooks provided. All in all, a VERY easy car to live with on a daily basis.

JP2005,
This forum's gonna suggest the SLK55, it's a SLK55 forum. Test drive both. You'll love both probably for different reasons. But really test drive it in conditions that you will be experiencing daily.
I almost bought a Z06. I really like the drive, feel, power (it has amazing power) and I loved the looks. But I needed a daily driver and although I could have used the Z06 as a daily driver (atleast in the summer), for me, all that horsepower is really wasted sitting in bumper to bumper traffic 2-3 hours a day. And I would have needed a winter car living in Canada. So for my needs I went with the SLK55, which by no means is a "compromise".
You already own a 11 second beast, are you looking for a daily driver or a commuter car? A sic ride? Or just want another car? Either way, IMO, either the Viper or SLK55 will put that smile on your face . It all depends on your needs.
Good luck..

I use my Viper as my daily driver, it goes everywhere, i have been in the worst rain storms in it. But i am a little weird and like a crazy car as a daily driver. Do i think it is pratical? HELL NO! But i have so much fun i deal with it.

using a viper as a daily driver is like wearing a three piece suit every day......not that you couldn't but would you want to?
All AMG's are comfortable (slk55 being the least comfortable of the bunch.....still way more refined than american sports cars that have the mentallity of sports suspension = no suspension), they are autoboxes, and eat up miles pretty easily. All in all a formula for a good daily driver (except if it snows where you are)
