Magnaflow X-pipe
I went to get my resonator removed this morning and the guy asked me if I wanted the replace it with an x-pipe instead of just straight pipes. Fearing sticker shock I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was only $139. It's made by Magnaflow and isn't as pretty as the Supersprint but just as effective. It's stainless but not polished and appears to be made out of two stampings. It's 2.5" and fits perfectly in place of the resonators, same centerlines and everything. The entire job with the new piece welded in place, no clamps, was $203. The finish is very similar to the rest of the stock system. It's P/N is 10791. A good deal louder than stock under heavy throttle but not as "brassy" sounding as straight pipes. Ripley's Muffler in Houston did an excellent job with the install.

Thank you for sharing, I hope people who are wanting to get an X pipe would do this, since I paid around the 3X your price without installation for the X pipe; Although we dont have professional exhaust/muffler stores that can guide us.

Ebay price as low as $65,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...QQcmdZViewItem
Plus hi-flow cats for $99 each.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true
This might be a pretty good setup and would probably cost about $300-450 with installation. Maybe I should try this out.

It has the same basic sound as stock but significantly louder. Not raspy at all. Has a decent gurgle when backing off from hi revs. The car actually seems to pull a little harder at high revs but that must be my imagination. I don't think there is any way the small scavenging effect it has could be felt in the seat of your pants. The only recording I've got is on a SONY hi def video with a bluetooth remote mic mounted on the license plate. That mic is the center channel of a 5.1 recording. The file is an AVCHD file and I'm totally clueless as how to get that recording posted. All new toys for track day.
One of the biggest differences I've noticed is that you can hear the exhaust as the dominate sound while accelerating at high speed (drivers window open). Normally wind buffeting at high speed gradually drowns out the exhaust note. That may still happen but at least not below 130.

So what size is our stock exhaust on the SLK55, 2.25" or 2.5"? I want to buy the correct size this week during the Hot Rod Power Tour that I'm on and there are Magnaflow reps on hand.
Thanks,

MBP,
Did you copy my numbers from another thread?![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Yes, stock is 2.38", and the numbr came off my 09, but I don't think there should be any difference in diameter for different model years.

Anybody got a good pic of the stock underside setup? Ie, where the flanges and/or clamps are in relation to CAT's/mid-pipe/rear section? I can't take a look as I am waiting my SLK55 to be delivered still.

Here's one of RB's track videos as well. I think he's devised a great setup.
