HI guys let continue this thread.!!

I've got a test drive on a used 997 black w/ black

First impres the *** is so hot. The looks is very good but almost same as VW (front light)

Drive the car ( for about 15min )

I dont think its accelerate better than my 55

The sound is too soft also ( compare 55 )

The rear have more space

Very good handling !

I dont find any comfy and bigger inside on 997 ( That i tot b4 )

And the best things is i've been a superstar for 15min, everybody look at me when pass by

Finally i said its not better than SLK 55 AMG

The dealer will give another test drive next week

997S and 997 Turbo

That's all for the breaking news

To be continued

Don't know about that. The GT3RS has the wider track and lower weight so is clearly more of a sport car than the already super GT3.

For the record, I agree with all your other points

SL
i think this is really not a difficult situation... obviously if u can afford the price, u would have chosen 911 or SL at the beginning instead of SLK right?

SLK should not be compared with 911 or SL... they are in complete different league... maybe u should compare with cayman or boxster, C55, CLK55 or whatever...

How is a N/A in a " different league"? Funny stuff. We looked at both the SL55 & N/A 911. Guess what? We selected the SLK55 (it was smaller/more nimble than the SL, accelerated just as quick, but handled & braked better). The SL had a little nicer interior, but was an absolute BARGE. The 911 Carerra offered no peformance benefit, lacked instant V8 torque & was ~ 50% more money. The value proposition just wasn't there (and everyone on the planet has a 911). They are extremely nice cars, it just didn't offer much performance value & the wife didn't like the newer/more sedate styling. Different league? Hmmm, no. A Carerra GT or an SLR, THAT is a "different league".

After driving the SLK55 @ the AMG challenge (both regular and 030), I have to say i was very impressed with the handling, the power, the overall package. (for a mercedes)
However, The 997s is a much better drivers car. It looks, sounds, handles much better.(and it has a six speed ) Not taking anything away from the SLK, but in this comparison, the 997S is clearly the uber sports car

Looks better? Your opinion - subjective.
Sounds better - See above (surprising you like a buzzing 6 over a throaty V8, but again...it's personal preference )
Mannual tranny - Yes, just not such a big deal to some Buyers (some actually prefer a good manual autobox....just depends on people's preference)

Fiuh.... U know what is the price for SLK 55 AMG in INDO ?

I'm just looking to change some bigger car, price is not a big problem once we in love

But i do understand what you mean... But come on not every people own expensive car is rich. ( Some do leasing )

But we do CASH for about 2.5 billion $IDR for SLK 55 you do the calculation

Dont know your country price but mayb 3 for 1 here

Not try to be cocky but cant accept your statement.

Peace man

Same thing here. I can afford a 997S and SL55 and still chose an SLK55... I test drove all cars extensively. 997S, SL55, and SLK55 are all very close in performance. I did not choose the 997 because I couldn't justify spending 100k for 355hp, no torque, and so-so interior. I did not pick SL55 because it was more of a cruiser and handled like a boat, it just wasn't that fun to drive (in my opinion), and I also didn't like the 5-speed tranny. SLK55, on the other hand, was perfect IMO. What is on a different league is SL65 and 997TT, which I couldn't afford.

It might be an age thing when it comes to preferences. Most of the younger crowd prefer the SLKs. The only people that I've ever seen driving 911s are semi balding men in their 50s. (ran across a brand new one - an S- this morning and the guy looked like Tony Sopranos)
I think the 911 was always thought as the epitome of sports car. And perhaps it once was (or was the only one). But there are so many other up and coming cars that are just as good and/or slightly better than the 911s.
I think the new turbo version is pretty wicked fast though.

They'r not looking for price to enjoy and feel the speed

i dunno what 997 you test drove but mine has a nocer interior than any mb except the 600's and 65's (they arent better but just as good)

i do have a full leather option though that comes with a "special" interior color (cocoa)

as for torque, its definitely not as good as a n/a 55 but its not lacking. i made 65-70 ---- 100 in 6th gear vid because many people that were thinking of going from an amg to a 997s kept worrying about the tq., will post later

anyways, it more than makes up for it up top

I think these are all around the 911s price and performance: Z06, R8, (upcoming) GTR, Exige S, M6, and Viper are some to name.

And I'm not doubting that there are some young 911 drivers out there, like there are gay republicans. I'd just never seen one my self.

thats not proof.

and its not all about #'s, if it was, id be driving a z06 right now.

i can show you REAL proof (from people that make a living testing cars, they actually drive them all, un****inbelievable, aint it ) that a 911 is the best all around sports car

EVO magazine, although they dont have a sports car category, the classify it as coupes/gt's, which would actually help your argument casue an m6 is by no means a sports car.

"OUR CHOICE" 997s
"BEST OF THE REST" R8, v8 vantage

Autocar also called the 997s the best sports car, cant find the mag right now though, very recent issue.

That doesn't really prove anything. In Car and Driver, 997 lost to C6 Corvette and GT3 lost to Z06. Does that mean that Corvette is superior to 911?

no one in their right mind would trade in a SLK55 for an SL500. that's just WRONG. the SL500 is one of the heaviest, ugliest roadsters ever made. not to mention how ****ing slow it is for the money. the 911, maybe...
