Lotus Elise SLK55
At first I thought it was Exige S based on the strong acceleration, but it looks like its a regular 190hp Exige (b/c wing is black, its painted the color of the car on exige S). BTW Lotus is no longer making NA exiges, from 2007 on, they will all be supercharged...

SLK 55 AMG
I've had goes in several Exige's (even the S model), and it truly is a wonderful car to go driving in, also a VERY different vehicle then the SLK. Won't be an easy DD for most people, but I have quite a lot of friends in Switzerland who drive one (an Elise or Exige) EVERYWHERE they go.
Having *cough* raced *cough* (don't tell the Swiss police ) some friends against the Exige in the twisties down in the countryside, I found my car being able to pull away from in the straights, but of course the 'lard' found in the SLK meant that I had to hammer the brakes in all corners. The Exige's however had some trouble catching up to me, especially in the hills (driving up a steep road) where the torque of the SLK really helped.
Looking at the movie, it seems that the Exige gets a very early jump right after each major curve, and this makes it possible for it to gain speed quicker then the SLK, and thus build some distance. At a few points when the SLK does begin to catch up, it would seem that the driver lets go of the gas for fear of crashing into the Exige because it suddenly begins to fall behind (the relatively smooth and fast gearbox changes of the 7G helps), but it's also very obvious that who ever is driving that Exige, is very good at changing his gears rapidly, and smoothly, since he never suddenly 'drops' his speed.
The new S is supposed to do 0-60 in 4.3s or so? I guess with good tires it can, definitely the power to weight ratio will help enormously against an SLK. Pretty sure an S will outrun an SLK55 in just about every situation if the owner doesn't mis-shift.
Nice video btw

I agree with you.
Don't forget that this is the warm-up lap and I am running Michelin Pilot Cups on my SLK 55, so I never push in my first lap.
On the other hand you have a fantastic driver in the Exige. In fact this is a car that he rented for the day at the track. He usually drives a modified Subaru STI. Check out his additional videos under "more from this user".
He sent me some additional "racing" footage from the Exige, that I will post when I will have the CD.
Cheers,
Dan

He's misinformed. Both cars are a virtual dead heat through the Quarter Mile @ 12.7 - 12.9 sec (depending on which source did the testing). The Vette has more power & a little more torque & even weighs a little less, but lacks a 7 Spd tranny (the SLK uses the power it does have more efficiently to overcome its slight power & weight disadvantage). This topic was discussed on the CF years ago & everybody said the SLK would be slower. It wasn't. The Vette does trap a little faster so at the end of the quarter mile, he will pull you slightly (but who runs their cars past 110+ on streets?) BTW, this is against the C6 MN6 Coupe. If he's got an auto, a drop top, or blows a shift, you may edge him - they are so close that it doesn't really matter anyway.

I raced with a C6 with my Kleemann SLK and i won the race ofcourse, but if we compare standard C6 (0-100 in 4,2 sek and 404 hp/546 Nm ) to a standard SLK 55 (0-100 in 4,9 and 360 hp/), C6 1550 kg and SLK 55 abot the same. I think that C6 will outrun the SLK.

I have a Lotus Elise right now that I rented for a week. Let me just say something, i have driven lots of cars, but the elise has gotta be the most fun i ever had in a car! It is just incredibly fun and handels amazing. If i did not have my GT3 ordered, i would definitely be getting a Lotus Elise. (getting in and out of the elise is pretty funny though! )
