Having *cough* raced *cough* (don't tell the Swiss police
) some friends against the Exige in the twisties down in the countryside, I found my car being able to pull away from in the straights, but of course the 'lard' found in the SLK meant that I had to hammer the brakes in all corners. The Exige's however had some trouble catching up to me, especially in the hills (driving up a steep road) where the torque of the SLK really helped.Looking at the movie, it seems that the Exige gets a very early jump right after each major curve, and this makes it possible for it to gain speed quicker then the SLK, and thus build some distance. At a few points when the SLK does begin to catch up, it would seem that the driver lets go of the gas for fear of crashing into the Exige because it suddenly begins to fall behind (the relatively smooth and fast gearbox changes of the 7G helps), but it's also very obvious that who ever is driving that Exige, is very good at changing his gears rapidly, and smoothly, since he never suddenly 'drops' his speed.
The new S is supposed to do 0-60 in 4.3s or so? I guess with good tires it can, definitely the power to weight ratio will help enormously against an SLK. Pretty sure an S will outrun an SLK55 in just about every situation if the owner doesn't mis-shift.
Nice video btw

I agree with you.
Don't forget that this is the warm-up lap and I am running Michelin Pilot Cups on my SLK 55, so I never push in my first lap.
On the other hand you have a fantastic driver in the Exige. In fact this is a car that he rented for the day at the track. He usually drives a modified Subaru STI. Check out his additional videos under "more from this user".
He sent me some additional "racing" footage from the Exige, that I will post when I will have the CD.
Cheers,

also how much does the slk55 weigh???
The Vette does trap a little faster so at the end of the quarter mile, he will pull you slightly (but who runs their cars past 110+ on streets?) BTW, this is against the C6 MN6 Coupe. If he's got an auto, a drop top, or blows a shift, you may edge him - they are so close that it doesn't really matter anyway.
