removing the resonator on a slk55,will achieve what exactly?

I've experienced it on hand for 7 months approximatley and find that the resonators are one of the modifications that you dont look back to.
I just love them, first of all whilst removing the resonators the flow of the exhausts will increase as well the torque and horsepower gains down the rpm range specifically from 2-5,500 rpm as it starts to pull stronger.
In addition the weight of the car will decrease quiet a bit in which the resonator are pretty heavy.
Overall:
Weight will decrease
Increased flow
Increased horsepower and hp gains
Sounds Meaner and louder.

X-pipe is what you should do for SLK55, for C55 and other cars with single pipe resonators simple resonator bypass will do.
You want X-pipe
You want X-pipe

Exactly, straight pipes wont do.Originally Posted by E55 PWR

Initially, I thought of getting an Hpipe instead of the Xpipe. I understand that the Hpipe would sound a little louder than the X. After lots of reading, I think these posts sum it up...
"In general H-Pipes will sound better (louder) and give more low end torque
X-Pipes will sound different, not as loud usually, and give more higher rpm hp"
"An X-pipe will sound like a European car, an H-pipe will sound like a 60's muscle car."
"actually an h pipe and x pipe are junctioned to equal out exhaust pulses and increase scavenging. the x pipe does it more effeciently than the h pipe because the transition is smoother. therefore the x pipe makes more power overall and results in a smoother sounding car that will have a little more of a howl to it. the h pipe will make less power but it ill be louder and a little more choppy sounding. "
PS. Removing the resonator and replacing it with straight pipes will make it louder but I'm not sure it improves power. It will reduce weight. That resonator is heavier than it looks.

guys you forgot something very obvious is that the x pipe helps retain the torque rather than losing whilst the straight pipes improve the flow substatially and loses torque in the lower levels.
X PIPE? now i'm confused ,please explain ,so i should remove the resonator?
then what?
then what?earl cut the resonator and then add an x pipe not a hard thing to do.

Removing it ofcourse but some cars do not come with resonators if i am not mistaken.Originally Posted by todd01clk
so is it better to remove it or just leaves it alone?

Are you sure that removing the resonator in the SLK will reduce torque? It's true for some cars, but from what I've heard, the SLK is seriously hampered by the stock headers and exhaust which are too restrictive for the engine, and simply swapping the headers to something more free-flowing, help increase HP by some 20 ponies, as well as increasing torque by 10nm or so.
This makes me think that removing the resonator and adding an Xpipe or straights, would alleviate some of the strain and actually increase both HP and torque?

Yes, however the X pipe is a better alternative than straightpipes in which it still wont sound very very loud and controllable whilst driving. Originally Posted by Shinigami

Example:Say you want it to be loud just slam the accelerator pedal and its gets louder whilst crusing or in traffic it sounds very normal.
I would like to add headers to increase the horsepower and torque but the only issue is that they are very expensive.

You've got an XKR, SLK and a Cayenne, and you're worried about spending a few thousand bucks on headers, c'mon
But yeah, I understand what you mean... for the gain in HP, spending a hundred bucks per 1hp increment, is a little hard to justify at time

We will wait and see there might be more headers being offered by Tuners that could be cheaper, I might get headers in the long run I will just have to wait and see.

get them. THey are a work of art and do increase HP

Most importantly its the quality, they do look like a work of art and are made in Italy who are known for perfection and attention to detail.Originally Posted by SLK55R
