Help! 09 SLK350 or 07/08 SLK55

Hello all,

newbie here. Am trying to decide whether to go with a slightly used SLK55 or the newly enhanced 09 SLK350. The 09 SLK350 with its 300 horsepower and tweaked steering and styling is reallly appealing to me. However, I want a REAL performance car, and am having a hard time ignoring the AMG enhanced SLK55!

I wish I could just get an 09 SLK55 but its out of my price range.

Also, does anyone have the 09SLK lease factors? I found the 08's, but not the 09's.

Thanks much!

Looking forward to learning all about the SLK's from the pros...since I am a current BMW owner.

Steve

SLK55///AMG The MONSTER on the block
Go with a lightly used, nicely priced 2007 SLK 55. 2007 has the original BIG AMG brakes and steering wheel paddles, plus it would be cheaper than a 2008.

I have no idea about the price, since I am in Canada. Anyway, SLK 350 is also a very nice roadster!! Although, the BMW's handling is slightly better the the Mercedes. There are still a lot of detail stuffs Mercedes are better than the BMW!!

20+ to list......
Built quality is what makes me want to switch from BMW to MB. BMW makes some high quality cars, but you only find that in the higher, more expensive models, while MB's quality is there even in the C class.

In regards to the subject, I would stick with the 07/08 SLK55 instead of the new SLK350. On a normal SLK, the older nose looks a lot better than the new one, just my opinion.

I assume you are refering to a Z3 M roadster vs an SLK350 or SLK55? If that is the case, the Z3 handles worse (not better) than either SLK (all cars have the same slalom speed but the Z3 posts a worse lateral G#...meaning at the limit, it will begin to push/slide sooner than the SLK). If the 030 option is equipped on the SLK55 (I don't think it was avail on the 350), the gap will only increase.

Is that a big difference between the SLK 55 with performance package than the one without??

The performance package does not increase power, it just gives you some better brakes etc...

If you can get a 350 with a manual gearbox, it might be a very interesting choice. But I suggest you drive them both first, as the growl of the 55's exhaust and overall power and torque tends to sway over most buyers.

Manual is still standard on the SLK350 in Canada, I would test drive both the 350 and 55 and make a decision for yourself.

This post was exactly like mine 2 years ago...same question, 350 vs 55, MT vs AT. And just like Shinigami suggest, test drive them both to help you decide. I did, loved them both but the power and the aggressive look on the 55 got me. I miss a MT and may go back to one in the future.

I have already laid down 22,400 + miles in 20 months, three new tires - rears worn, pass front side wall bubble. No pads, yet and one broken paddle - I didn't do it. Averaging 21 mpg too - okay, so I'm not sprinting off the line anymore - just occasionally when challenged.

No matter what you will fine pleasure in either model.

new engine has alot more power, keep that in mind. with new engine you won't need to mod IMO, the older SLKs are peppy but they still give up 30+HP compared to the newer ones.

Are you talking about non-AMGs? I thought with the 55 they didnt change anything pertaining to the engine

the non amgs, the new SLK350 has 305HP instead of 265, definitely a big jump. also it has 7200 rpm redline. it is a much more powerful motor. Its the 09 SLK. 05-08 are the same.
