Do you still like your car?

Do you still like your car? or maybe the question is, who still HAVE their car?
this side of the forum is kinda dead these days

for me, after 3+years of ownership, i still do like my car, even though im not as fast or loud as the new M3s or C63s or even a chipped 335i. my car is a daily driver and little problems and gliches r starting to come out. im having a strong tendancy to get a new c63...

how many people still like their car? or will be getting another one?

An M3 runs a 12.6 quarter mile, the SLK55 a 12.7. They are pretty even in acceleration. For $75k, you are going to get a C63 that runs a 12.3 quarter mile (ie a 4 tenths of a second improvement?). Dude, spend $5k & get some headers & an ECU tune & you are pretty close to 400 Hp & your car should be just as fast a C63 (and louder since that is another of your criteria). IF you need 4 seats, the C63 is the way to go but that did not seem to be a factor for you in your post. My 2 cents.

+1

Instead of spending crazy money on a new car spend 1/5th of that on mods. It will make your car feel like a new car!

G55 & SLK55
My car feels brand new and yes, I love it a lot. Its the garage queen, I still have a large grin driving it from time to time. 3 years and counting, many good years to come.

Agree with alroumi. I also have had my car for 3 years and still get excited when I know I will be driving it. Not a garage queen, but not a daily driver either. Also agree with IIIMBPIII; when I started getting a little bored, I started moding - wow, it really woke the car up.

For me, the SLK is too small to be a daily driver - simple things like picking up someone from the airport with lots of luggage would be a challenge. I have a slightly modded CLK500 that is fantastic for commuting/comfort/chores. A C63 would be a great daily driver - 500+ hp with mods and 4 doors. Drove the new M3 and the car has no torque at low rpms - need to rev the cr@p out of it to get it to move.

As for deadness of the SLK site? Well, not as many SLK55s around as SL55s, E55s, etc., thus less folks talking/moding them. There is still exclusivity here - I still get compliments on the car and the model has been out 5+ years. Like the E46 M3, soon there will be zillions of C63s and new gen M3s out there. Do you do a double take when you see an E46 M3? Not a slam on either car - I will probably replace the CLK500 with C63, but I probably won't be as excited after 3 yrs of ownership as I am with SLK.

We tried to unload the car thru lemon law, but MBUSA came thru and fixed the never-ending window grease problems. However, it wasn't a cakewalk process. The car stayed in the dealer shop for almost two weeks. They replaced all the weather seals that touches the roof and windows (both sides) and they replaced the window sills (internal and external). When all these parts were replaced, the hydraulic pressure from the rooftop mechanism failed causing the folding sequence to go awol and ended up w/ scratches on the roof and the C pillar. At the expense of the dealer, my wife and I debated whether to paint the entire top section (including the A and C pillars) in black just to set her car apart from other caspian blue's we've seen in the area. She decided to keep the original color, but now regrets it after showing her renderings of what it might've looked like had we gone black on the entire top section.

That said, she took the car out for a spin after sitting in the garage for almost 3 months and she's enjoying it again. She wants some upgrades done, but that'll have to wait in line w/ the Z being first.

I have no regrets when I purchased the SLK55 over the C63. I must admit that the C63 is much more of a beast. I chose the SLK55 simply because I've been driving sedans for 9 years. Only thing I hate about the SLK are the stupid cup holders!

I personally prefer the AMG V8 sound over the M3, in my opinion the AMG V8 just sounds a lot more meaner. As far with 335... it's has a six cylinder so there's really no comparison when it comes to sound. When it comes to speed... They're all pretty much dead even unless it comes to triple digits.

Whether you stick with the SLK55 or go with the C63... you'll still be smiling.

yup

I'm sort of surprised to be honest ... I normally get bored with my cars pretty fast.

I've been driving this one now for 3 years and I'm still loving it.

Of course it could be all the mods ...
