It's Been A Good Run

Well, after almost four years with my SLK55, I just picked up a replacement and moved over to Porsche. Loved the SLK but always wanted to get into a 997. After looking for about two months, found this:

2008 997 C4S Cabriolet
6,900 miles
6 speed
Triple Black
Options:
Power Seat
Heated Seats
Wheel Caps
Parking Assist
Sport Chrono
Stainless Steel Exhaust
Nav
Floor Mats

After Market:
GT3 Front Bumper
Rinspeed "Indy" Rear Bumper
RSS Plenum
Smart Top

Here's a couple of pictures from the seller.

Take care everybody. Going to miss the SLK.

I don't know about it being faster (I know it's been debated a number of times on this and other forums), but the SLK does have a much larger engine. The engine in the SLK is way, way, sexier looking in the engine bay.

HP - numbers are basically the same for both.

Torque - SLK blows the 997 away.

End of the day, it was a fun few years in the SLK. Just always wanted to try a 911. Who knows, after a few years, I'll probably be back in a MB.

Lee,

Thanks, appreciate it. MB car or not, I'll always check this forum. Best forum for MB info (and the Off Topic is always good for some laughs).

Haven't driven the 997 hard enough to give a good comparison in terms of power and handling. Most of the seat time has been just driving her back (600 miles) on the interstate so here's a few thoughts.

Really suprised on how quiet the top is. Given that it's not a hardtop like the SLK, I figured the 997 would be alot louder, especially in terms of wind noise. I would say that it's actually as quiet as the SLK.

Road noise is suprisingly also very quiet. My wife says that the 997 on the highways is actually quieter than the SLK and I would have to agree. Could be the tires (Michelin on the 997 versus Pirelli on the SLK).

Interior seating position and feel is much more roomy in the 997. SLK had a much more tomb-like feel (which perhaps many people would like).

Fit and finish. This has been the biggest difference. Leather, seats, controls, etc. is much, much higher in the 997. However, given the $40,000 difference, you would expect this

That's it for now. Given some more seat time, I'll know more.

After having a chance to give the car a detail, I have to say the paint finish on the 997 is so much superior to the SLK. The SLK had so much orange peel on it where I couldn't find one spot of peel on the 997.

Here's pics after I added the TechArt side skirts, dropped with TechArt springs, red seat belts, and HRE P40's in 19inch.

Looks nice - and I agree about the interior, Porsche has done an excellent job crafting the insides of the 997.

Orange peel on your SLK? I've never seen any orange peel on any R171.
I also don't think the 997's interior is significantly nicer than the AMG (maybe a little bit, but not much). In the end, all that matters is your opinion since you are driving the 911. It is a nice car & it's built extremely well with excellent materials so have fun!

Very nice. Change isn't always easy. I noticed the plate, your initials? Looks classy on a classy car.
