SLK 55
Picking it up Saturday
My car is in and i'm going to pick it up in the morning. I bet it won't sleep much tonight. My dealer called me, very excited, and told my I picked the right color (firemist red) he said it was absolutely beautiful.

SLK 55
Just got home with it, tried to take some pics but it got too dark too early. I'll take plenty tomarrow and post them.
It has been poring down rain for the trip home so I drove super carefull. But holy cow what a car. It felt like it wanted to go fast. great road feel it feels like it's just glued to the road even though the pavement was covered with water.
I ordered it the first of october. I got the one that the dealer was getting as a bonus. My specs were added just as they were getting ready to build.
Now I'll spend the rest of the night reading the owners manual.

I love this car
I had a S2000, what i consider the purest sports car ever built (ony the FY00-03 models), so that is what I compair it to.
the 55 is way more confortable, but confort was not a factor when I bought the S, now that I'm older and have back problems it's a definate factor now.
I loved the conected feel of the S to the road and thought I would have to give that up. I was wrong, the 55 feels stuck to the road and lets me feel every inch, but does not beat me up with it.
The power is awsome, my S always felt like it wanted to just run fast, this thing feels like a lion just waiting for me to tell it to attack. I'm just waiting for the 1000mile break in. I test drove the SLK350 at my dealer. that car is very compariable to the S in performance. from 0-20mph I think the 350 would have a slight edge, 20-100 almost exactly the same feel, 100> (This is why I went for the 55 instead of the 350) the s2000 is definatly quicker from 100 to 120. I think it's because of the automatic slk vs the manual on the s the manual slk would probably be slightly quicker.
Handling the s2000 (old version) handled as good as or better than a F348 (my opinon, I did a comparison) The 350 would proably not be able to stay with a S on the curves but would not be out of visual range either, hard to say with the 55, it feels just as solid on the road as the S but I tend to think the physics of the extra 600lbs on the 55 would push it out of the curve earlier, it would probably come down to what kind of rubber you have.
Overall I think the 55 would probably compair in performance to a supercharged S2000, as good or better than a 911S, (just an opinon)

Do you miss the S2000 gear shift?..... as a fellow S2000 owner I've narrowed my next car list down to the SLK55 and new Boxster S (I have orders on both)...... I love the 55 but am worried that I'll miss the fantastic shift in the Honda.

It has a paddle shift on the steering wheel, I havent tried it yet but I think it will be cool.
Unfortunatly, due to spinal damage, using a clutch is very painfull for me that's the main reason for selling the s2000.
I would have still picked the 55 over a boxter S, I had a friend who after I easly beat his boxter, went out to buy a Boxter S, which I promply beat by about a car length to 100. His next car was a Jag, he wouldnt race me anymore.
even though I havent took the 55 out of Comfort mode (which starts the car in second gear) and havent pushed the rpm's past 4000 it still feels like it accelerates faster than the 2000.
After 500 miles I feel like the car is breaking in, the engine sound didn't seem very impressive at first but now it seems to be developing a aggressive rumble, I could be wrong but I dont think so.

I still have my 04' S2000 and bought a C55. Nice to see that the S2000 gets such high praise, I love mine, drove it tonight for the first time in about two weeks. What an awesome car! Enjoy the SLK, I would live to drive one back to back with the C55 and see how of a difference the 7G tranny makes in the SLK.

Nissan 350Z Roadster has Way more Torque than
the Honda S2000........

how is the Ride between the two?
