I got the damn thing! Waiting is over! I just love it! An unbelievable car! It's even a little scary! It's pouring out there but this car stuck to the ground like glue! Even with brand new tires! But I hate the rain and digital cameras! Yesterday, it was picture perfect sunny day; just gorgeous!

The pictures are awful. But digital cameras are horrible in the darkness! I am going to take some nice pictures with my Canon EOS3 and put them on CD and put them in this forum later.

I am dead tired. I am going to take a nap in my new toy. Even though it is like 2 C (35 F) outside! On second thought I will spend the night in it!

I saw your SLK55 ready for delivery outside the doors when I went to test drive a Smart Car yesterday. It looks really impressive, it's definitly a very muscular looking roadster. Congratulations!

The seats are extremely comfortable and loads of support! I don't know why everybody is complaining about how uncomfortable the seats are? My major complain would be the steering. Don't get me wrong the steering is just fine but it is not equal to the unbelievable transmission, engine, brakes... It is not as sharp and doesn't have as much feel to it as say a Porsche Boxter or even a BMW M3.

You need the red to justify the rest of the car. Black is to heavy/dull for a dare I say muscular sexy roadster!

yah!
Teufel,
congrats !!!
Very nice! Just got back in town last night (yawn), but I'm picking up mine in about an hour.
Interesting you mention the steering. I drove the new 997 in Germany, and like the 996, man, that steering is sharp. Hope the 55's isn't 'too bad' ;-)
Anyway, congrats !!! looking great, EVEN in the rain ;-)

Thanks Dan,

I know how you feel! Congrats beforehand! You will love the damn thing!

Rain? What rain? Try frozen solid icy roads up here where I live (British Properties)! We had hail last night!

How does Porsche do it? You know the CRAZY SHARP STEERING!:v

Well, picked mine up, like Teufel, really like it so far (Diamond Silver), and like Teufel says, the steering isn't QUITE as sharp as Porsche's. But all in all, love it so far.
I'll post a pic or two tomorrow if I get a chance to take it. Still trying to beat jetlag ;-)

Cheers all,
Dan

Congrats! You are (one of ) the luckiest guys.

There is a workdwide shortage of SLK, people would take anything less like SLK 200K, SLK350.

And, you have the SLK55 , you are the king !

Well, mainly because there isn't a big and heavy V8 over the wheels. Instead there's more or less just the fuel tank, spare, battery and a bit of bodywork (and some of that is polyurethane). Weight is the enemy. There are no front-engined cars on sale with the steering feel of a 911. Having said that, the new 997 has much less steering feel than the 996, which itself was perhaps not quite as feelsome as the 993 where you could feel every mark on the road surface and tell exactly what the grip level was..

I'm not at all concerned that the SLK55 AMG's steering will not be as precise as the 911. I never expected it would be, there was no reason to suggest it was even possible, and it isn't meant to be a 911 rival. As to the Boxster, well it doesn't really matter if it does have better steering. It's ugly. Besides, despite being a 911 owner, even I'm sick of the self important a55holes who generally seem to buy new Porsches in the UK. It's time for a change.

I totally agree with you regarding Porsche 911 and Boxster. Weight is a major reason. But how about BMW? The M3 steering is almost as sharp and connected to the road as the Porsche 911 or Boxster. Or the upcoming BMW MZ4 with a heavy 400 hp V8. I can guarantee you it will be at lest as good as the M3.

I also agree with you the SLK55 was not meant to be a Porsche or even a M3. As a whole the SLK55 is the perfect car for me right now.

Have you noticed when you turn in a corner the steering wheel does not come back? I have to straighten the wheels manually! Even my MDX straightens automatically. Is this normal or just bad steering?

some more pics, diamond silver
finally had a chance to take a few pics of my car. Posting these as a lot of people have asked what the diamond silver looks like. WEll, this is it. Like it better than the Iridium cause it's less common. Of course, I WOULD say that ;-)

cheers,
Dan

It looks deadly! Deadly color! Congrats! Gorgeous sunshine! I miss that weather so bad.

I would have chosen that color if it looked good with the black/berry interior. I needed the red color to justify the outrageous look of the car! Besides, all my cars had black leather interior, including my MDX! I was getting sick and tired of the same!

sunshine...
Thank you very much :-)
Don't overestimate the sunshine. That was taken the one dry day we had since I got the car ;-) It's grey and 14 Degrees right now, and it'll start pouring any second. Which I don't mind all that much, being from Germany and all, but in LA, as you probably know, most people quickly forget how to drive a car when it starts 'dribbling' a bit (mind you, it's called 'a storm' here ;-) ).

I thought about the dual colour interior (Black & ash), but then went for the black. I have to say, I love the airscarf. One of those things were you think 'gadget - I get it just for fun but how useful can it really be' - but it's quite cool, no ? :-)

Cheers,
Dan
