It is actually a DVD player. So you can play MP3 burned to a DVD.
Now if someone could come up with a menu based way of cutting the DVD picture on....

Take it to a shop that does work on MB's (usually does MB/BMW/Audi or Euro Cars) and they can do that through the car's computer.

Actually, the only way to do this now is to completely replace the navigation with one imported from europe where vehicles come from the factory this way. To my knowledge the units are even made for mercedes by different companies.

I was thinking about doing this (of course first I must get my car in about 2 to 3 weeks). Have seen a lot of talk about how the MB dealership will understandably not do this because of liability issues. So after passing a MB independent specialist I started wondering if they had the computer (which they must). Will they know the proper procedure for turning it on without messing something up?

There is at least one person on another forum that works for MB that clams to have activated there own unit. Also a company called R171.co.uk in London does this. I e-mailed them and they indicate it can be done on US cars. Here is there reply:

Yes, if it says "Mercedes" anywhere in their shop, they can do that.

As I said, the only way you can do it now is to go euro. Plus, that is in the UK, they obviously haven't tried to do it with US versions of comand, and other companies such as NAVTV cannot do it. I know because I have asked.

There was an older version of stardiagnostic (the dealerships diagnostic software) that could do it, but that was for an older version of COMAND. The only person who might be able to do it is SteveNL (I think that is his member name). Anyway, I believe he has completely reprogrammed euro COMAND systems to use in american cars, but even this was a feat.

Find me someone who has actually done this to a US car that was made in the last two or three years, and I will be impressed.
