Arrow Sat, Jan 29 - R171 Reconnaissance Lunch Cruise

R171 Reconnaissance Lunch Cruise

R171 owners, you're invited!

Mission - A bold attempt by a handful of brave R171-owning souls to plot, plan and execute, at a future date, an official SoCal SLK GTG.

Our Agenda -

10:30 am - Meet in the Electric Chair parking lot in Huntington Beach (410 Main St).

11:00 am - Drive down PCH to Nwpt Coast Rd to Lag Cyn Rd to wine & dine in Laguna Bch at that alfresco cliffside restaurant where it and its attached p. lot both overlook Main Beach and the water (don't forget sunglasses).

1:ish - Keep going down PCH thru Capo Bch to San Clemente where our SD contingent, if he/they choose to join us, can just take off and go home while the rest of us will head back down PCH to Huntington

Participants so far -

cjmegha
Lady Wolf (+1)
lisamcgu

Directions to Main St in Huntington Beach -

From LA -

Get to the 405 South.
Just south of the 605, exit at Seal Beach Blvd. Head toward the beach, Lft.
PCH - Lft.
Past thru Sunset Beach and the Bolsa Chica wetlands coming up the hill into Huntington Beach (notice happy dogs frolicking down on Dog Beach on your right).
Main St - Lft (it you turned right, which you can't, you would be on the Pier).
3 blks up, Orange - Rt.
150 ft, Alley entrance - Lft.
10 ft, Electric Chair P. Lot entrance - Lft.

From SD -

Get to the 5 North.
Merge onto the 405 North, then take the 55 South.
Exit at Victoria, at the second light, which is actually Victoria, Rt.
Go down the hill into Huntington Beach (notice HB sprawled out in view in front of you).
Next light, Brookhurst - Lft.
PCH - Rt.
Main St - Rt (it you turned left, which you can't, you would be on the Pier).
3 blks up, Orange - Rt.
150 ft, Alley entrance - Lft.
10 ft, Electric Chair P. Lot entrance - Lft.

We'll be there but if you don't take MY name off the list and put Wolf's on he may pout the whole time As he likes to remind me the SLK is HIS car, not mine.

Well its happening in this thread too, can't edit the first post

So here is it so far -

cjmegha
lisamcgu
Wolf (no more pouty face )

My pre-reconnaissance for the Reconnaissance Lunch Cruise has found that the restaurant on the cliff is no mas, but the lot is still there and empty, so that will probably where we park before we got next door or something to eat - I'll investigate other Laguna Beach eateries in the meantime as a backup.

As for San Clemente, I am clueless. I a prior drive up the coast I notice the quaintness quotient kinda ended here? If anyone knows a good place to park and hang for a bit here, please let us know, after all this is a reconnaissance cruise and we would appreciate all input

Well, according to the Weather Channel it'll be cool and cloudy but dry on Saturday. Everyone else have airscarf so they can keep the top down? Have I mentioned I LOVE the heated seats?

Okay, its raining today, but there is supposed to be a "huge" high coming tonite to clear things out by tmw. It won't be the warmest tmw (Sun is supposed to be in the 70's), but it will be the first day after the rain has cleaned the air a bit - should be okay.

I'll pm whoever is going with my cell phone so you can let me know if you'll be there or not up to Sat am.

The eather Channel shows it clear and cool. Why don't we do this. You both live semi near where we are meeting with Jim and I about 90 minutes away. We will check here in the AM before we leave and make a definate choice? I can also pm our home phone if you want it.

Private message. If you look at the top right corner of the screen it has a little box where it shows your private messages. I'll send you one so you can see.

It was too fun - sorry to say we didn't miss you!

With just the three of us (in two cars), we were able to get lost (my fault, twice), but have fun spinning Ueys to get headed back going the right way

With Lady Wolf in the passenger seat, while Wolf drove his car and me mine, she was able to not concentrate on driving but on what was going on with the other drivers. The unbelievably incredibly beautiful Bentley that I was having a cow over on the Coast Hwy off Newport Coast was, I found out later from our observer contingent, actually checking US out!

I think LW can tell you better, but to see one SLK55 is one thing, to see two was just too much for some. That poor Boxster that was next to us on PCH most the way, to have his erroneous purchase thrown in his face not once, but twice. Perhaps he could take solace that he wasn't the only car on PCH that day that was being humbled. If not faster, we were just having so much more fun than anyone!

Even the bellman at the Montage (where we had an apres lunch with a killer view of the Pacific) asked if we had been racing each other. That wasn't til later on Nwpt Coast Rd - LW informed W and I that we both had the same stupid grin on our faces

TOO FUN!!!

I will post pictures soon. I have to work now, and I was just too exhausted that night - truly, the excitement and concentration required did me in, but of course, I can't wait to do it again!
