SLK55 with SLR engine transplant

http://www.fastcarforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=861

Has anyone seen this yet? Wasn't sure where to post it so decided that the SLR engine was more expensive than the SLK 55 ( ) ...

1 Arab guy has alot of cars
2 SLK wasn't fast enough
3 Installed SLR engine in SLK
4 Didn't have enough money left for a custom hood :v
5 AMG technicians have flown down to check it out
6 He did the install himself???
7 Women probably dig him

It was already posted in the SLK55 forum. I still call BS on this. The front end of the car would literally have to be made larger to accomodate the size of this V8.

I'd have to agree with the skeptics on this one. I haven't seen an SLR engine in real life, but I just can't imagine that you could possibly cram a V12 into the bonnet of an SLK. I mean, that's why the SLR has the Gotham City look to it: the engine is so long/large it pushes the passenger cabin to the rear.

The SLR is still a V8.

Ooops, my bad. Meant V8.

I still stand behind my skepticism though.

It looks like the hood was designed by the same company that designed the boxes for Gateway Computers.

Of course the motor would fit. The SLK55 has the same basic V8 as the SL55 and SLR.....without the supercharger of course. Since the SC fits neatly inside the V..........it should be a pretty easy swap. Therer are tuners out there that already have SC SLK55s for sale. SO, why you wouldn't but this swap is beyond me.

PHOTOSHOP!!!!.......Here's why, look at the closeup of the hood cutout. It is paper thin. If he cut open the hood then you would see the edge of the metal. In addition, there is no shadow that makes sense. Daylight would show a shadow from the hood onto the engine, flash would produce a shadow behind the engine parts. Look at the license plate, the name on there is really poorly done.....

I concur with the PHOTOSHOP judgement. I blew up the pictures and there are obvious flaws where you can actually see the motion of the photoshop tool used to make the cutouts or blend them (i'm not sure which) goes into the white area of the SLK's hood. If the image were used less compression than these jpg's, it would be hidden more appropriately. Try it yourself. Take one of the images and apply some photoshop, gimp, or paint shop pro filters. See what you find.

Well actually, posting doubt about the existence of the car you had presented to us is expressing an opinion. Several of us doubt that such a mechanical feat is possible, thus we have yet to venture into the realm of "what do we think about it."

For your sake, however, I'll assume that the car does indeed exist.

First, I'd say that it was quite a feat of engineering to accomplish.

Next, I'd ask what the point was. Clearly, it can't be about performance, as he already owns an Enzo, according to your pictures, which is performance enough for most people. If you are only considering straight-line acceleration, there would have been other options to consider that would likely outperform the SLK/SLR hybrid. Perhaps he was just so bored that he thought "what if" and he had the resources to follow up on that mind experiment.

My ultimate opinion is that the car, although interesting from a technical standpoint, ultimately fails to impress me. I would have personally left the SLR engine inside the SLR that it came with.

I think it's more like a 'just because you can'.

After all, if you have that much money, what else are you going to do?

Would you be able to fit the 5spd transmission from the SLR into the SLK????? I know the SLK has a 7G-Tronic tranmission and to this date AMG is still working on a 7G-Tronic that can be beefed up to handle the torque and hp of the 5.5 V8 Supercharged cars. I still cal BS on this one.

That sexy man in the sunset made me all gigly inside. What a funny picture. I can see it in a tourism ad.. the Voiceover would go something like this.. "Come to the land of oppression. Come to the heat and emptiness of the Middle East.. Come home.. to Dubai"

Exclamation

Has nobody touched on the subject of what an ugly job that installation was? I mean, couldn't they build a hood with a couple of bumps in it to cover those parts that stuck up? It looks kinda like this:

Bin, since he is your uncle, could you take photos of the engine with the hood up?

For all those who think it's a photoshop...It's not. I'm the guy who took those pics. I can assure you it's real.
Here are some pics with the hood up.

If you all don't believe it's real, that's too bad for you. I saw it with my eyes, I know it's real. I thank the people that believe it's real.
