Mag,
Lost track of your buying and selling over the holidays but no real surprise about the SLR. Seems like you had a jones for it from day one. Congratulations on the evolution of your "art" gallery. I was a little surprised you went off so deep into the Benzes at the end of the year. Looks like you've immersed yourself in the MB way of life.

Always great to hear your takes. Has your weather cleared up? When is the review???

Anyhow, you're right on the F430. The car is too 'sweet' to even think of selling unless I could find a Ferrari to replace it. 599? Ummmm.... The jury's still out on that car for me. I think the F430 is more 'exotic' looking. Enzo? Ummmmm..... Hell yeah... in a heartbeat!!! But their prices are insane. As ridiculous as this may sound, I don't have the financial 'strength' to buy one without selling 3 or 4 other cars! And no way would I do that.

At one point in time late last summer , I considered selling the Carrera GT to buy a Murcielago Roadster but then I 'saw the light'! The Murcielago Coupe I had was fanatastic, outrageous and kwazy! But I decided to buy some cars that I could put some more miles on and even drive in the rain (as insane as that might sound). I had the Murcie 8 or 9 months and had only 600 or so miles on her. Kinda dumb holding on to her.

BTW, I'm really enjoying the Mercedes (what's plural?). I finally have some neat rides I can drive in all weather and enjoy a little bit more. Magwheel
Yeah, the F430 is probably the best 'bang for buck Ferrari'. It looks great, performance is excellent and you already had the Maranello, so the F430 must have something special. I feel the same on the 599, we're yet to see. The Enzo is wayy too much (not that you can't afford it), but just seems like the kind of car you'd put 30 miles on in 2 years. By the way, if I were you I'd go test drive the Buggatti Veyron, but I'd only do it if I were willing to buy it - just in case you're completely blown away!

What I meant about the 4-Star Benz member is the (1) SL550, (2) S550 and (3 & 4) SLR -- you know the SLR counts as 2!

Still waiting for your review by the way!

Mags,

You dumped your murci and didnt you have a gallardo as well? Why the sl550 and not the 55 or 65? I have looked at the 997tt and the gt to add to my 65 or to dump the 65 and get the slr but 2 fast cars does seem tempting as compared to ne fast car. You insight will be needed since you dumped the gt and the 997tt which I would think both cars were pretty close to the speed of the slr. Congrats!

Hey BiTurboAmg, Yes, I had a Pearl Orange Gallardo and absolutely loved it. I guess I just freaked out and went Mercedes Gung Ho . But.... I think the real reason was I wanted cars that were a little more practical for everyday driving. Yes.... I sacrificed the outrageous looks of the Lambos and Ford GT for the SL and S, but so far it has worked out and I'm driving the new rides a lot more.

Obviously, the SLR is a pretty decent car to replace the others and the SL and the S aren't too shabby either.

Between the GT and the 997TT, I would recommend the 997TT because it's easier to drive, has better visibility, is more practical for everyday driving and you don't have to worry about the engine compartment getting filthy dirty if you drive it in the rain or snow (I hope not)! p.s. Get the 6-speed! BUT.... the GT will absolutely draw a ton more attention, I think it's slightly faster and will definitely make you feel like you're in LeMans ready to take on everything and anything!

The wild and crazy cars are tremendous fun and draw lots of compliments but eventually you realize you would enjoy a car you can drive and enjoy more often! Hope I helped a little. Mags

p.s.s. Oh yeah, the reason I didn't get the 55 or 65 is that I had the F430, the Carrera GT and the 997TT at that time so I didn't feel like spending the extra money on the high horsepower versions cars since I already had some crazy *** high speed cars. Plus, I think the regular versions are more enjoyable with smoother ride quality. Agree?

Remember now.... the fastest car in the world isn't necessarily the car you would enjoy the most every day of the year. I wouldn't wanna have to drive the Carrera GT every day.

So how would you rate the SLR for a daily driver? I would buy one but my credit union won't give me a 30 year mortgage to cover it

Hope you are enjoying the ride!

Sounds like your credit union are real jerks! I had the same problem and called my lawyers... 'Dewey, Screwem and Howe' , and they got me a 25 year loan with no interest! By the way, would you possibly also be looking to buy a fantastic bridge in Brooklyn??? I can make you one hell of a deal! Just a joke son.... just a joke! Mags

p.s. Because of the recent weather here in Northeast Ohio, I've only had the SLR out twice since early January. I'm hoping to take her out tonight when we go to dinner so I'll have some more seat time and maybe I'll be able to give you some feedback. Take care.

I'm just looking at all of the videos on YouTube of the Carrera GT and how they're cruising at about 40+ mph then nail the throttle and you still get loads of wheel spin. Now that's what I call power.

No I don't need another bridge, but brother I'd trade you my Rolecks for a spin around the block!

Hope you got a chance to take her out tonight. The car I mean

You can see where I had to trade/sell the Ford GT AND the 997 Turbo to be able to fit the SLR into the 'scheme' of things. I wish I had the 'moolah' of Gates or Buffet but I'm OK where I'm at. I can still pay cash at McDonalds and Burger King!

Again... I not trying to be a jerk. Everyone has their limit... including me. Michael

Hey Mag - dont be crazy. NONE of us here think that of you! Listen, if you cant come to a car fan board and talk about your cars as enthusiastically as you do - then what is the point? Trust me - we would be upset at you if you DIDNT talk about your cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean that!!!
