SLR/C199/R199/Z199: I need a Psychiatrist!
I've been around the block so many times on the SLR that I think I'm ready for the rubber room.
I first took a SLR for a test ride in March of 2006 and loved the car but not enough to cough up the money to buy it. The thought of another huge car payment made me sea-sick.... and I hate boats!
But every other month, I'd get the SLR bug again and again. So just a week or two ago, I decided to pull the trigger, bite the bullet, throw in the towel or as they say cave-in to the internal brain pressure! I called the Cleveland Mercedes dealer and worked out a deal trading in the 997 Turbo and the Ford GT. I think I got pretty good deal
but won't know until after I drive the car and try and wipe the huge grin off my face or after a year later when hopefully the price drop comes to a sudden halt and starts to climb a little.
Kinda taking a huge gamble on the price but sometimes.... 'You've gotta grab the Bull by the tail and face the situation!'I got a Crystal Laurite Silver with the Silver Arrow 300SL Red Leather interior. I liked the Black too but I think the Silver will stand out a little more especially with the red interior. She should be here Wednesday or Thursday at the latest according to the dealer. The dealer also sent a few guys to pick up the Ford GT and the 997 Turbo tonight.... guess they were afraid I'd suddenly change my mind...... Who me? There's a couple empty spots in the garage right now!
I'll try and do a review shortly after the steering wheel is in my grubby little hands!
The Magsp.s. I loved both the Ford GT (but hardly drove it.... only 1000 miles in 2 years) and the Porsche 997 Turbo (drove it a little more than the Ford GT). I just couldn't justify holding on to the 997 Turbo when I could wrap my fingers around the steering wheel of an a SLR!
AGREE?

I'd also be interested in your comments on CGT vs. SLR. Is the extra weight really worth the costs in performance? Or are those Mercedes toys worth having on board?

Silver on Red =
Err. '05 SL55's with low miles barely go for 80k, how do you get a brand new '06 for 77k

Actually - Congrats! Get rid of the American Clunker
I feel bad you got rid of the 997 Turbo. I luv that car and wanted one very much b4 buying the S550. My parents refused because they know what I would do.
If you dont mind me asking.............. what was the trade value they gave your 997?
Thanks
BRAD
She's being transported in an enclosed trailer from out of state.
I'll give you a review probably the week after next so I can get a few miles on her. Mags
but I can't give you the trade value on the 997 because it wouldn't be fair to the Mercedes dealer to post the value. Let's put it this way.... I'm happy with what I got!
The 997s are holding their value real good so far. Let me ask you - did the car feel FAST FAST FAST? the 997 turbo is supposed to be mind blowing out of this world in the speed dept. You have some pretty amazing exotics........ how would you compare the 997TT to the carrera gt ?

AGREE? why does anyone need so many fancy cars? if u got too much money to waste, isn't it better off to do some charity donation instead?
I mean, actually in the end, why work at all?
I'm just going to sit on my *** all day because in the end, what's life worth and what does it mean?

I haven't even got the SLR yet. She'll be here Wednesday or Thursday. I'll put some pics on in a few days when the weather clears up a little. Regarding the 997, Number one, I absolutely loved the car.
Number three..... I was able to get some real good money
for the 997 which may have not been the case down the road. Good to hear from you.

It's your money, spend it how you see fit. I am sure it didn't come easy.
I think the SLR will hold it's value pretty well.
and as for the $77K SL55, I told you before man, your friend is lying to you to make you think he's a real deal maker. Three things guys always lie about, their gold score, how much they paid for the house/car , and whether their watch is fake.
I have never driven the ford GT, and I am sure it's an amzing car, but i can't help everytime I see one thinking that the guy could have spent the money on something that looked not so damned weird.
the SLR is arguably the sportiest car I have ever seen and could not be more attention getting if you painted it neon green. It's a fabulous car that still has all the luxuries a car that price should have. You made an awesome choice, congrats.

I was out last week driving my SLR around running it hard pulling 100'-150' hole shots with it from every light I stoped at. At one point I was running 140+ mph and it felt like I was driving 80 mph it is a sick car to drive
As for Boats you need a boat like this it is just like an SLR
