First Shots Of The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Speedster
The concluding SLR will feature an open-air only construction. Gone is the roof; gone is the windscreen - a small wind deflector will be the singular element between the SLR's occupants and the great outdoors. To reduce weight, a carbon plastic body will be used, while air conditioning and power windows will both be abandoned as well. The result in a weight savings of some 200 kilograms, enough to help the model reach 186 mph from a standstill in 26 seconds and achieve a top speed of 217.5 mph

This is sort of interesting. I read in Motor Trend a few months back that Mercedes and McLaren were parting ways, funny how they would be working on yet another version of the SLR if it were true.

It was publicly announced that Merc will end their partnership with McL next year, so that gives us 2 possibilities.
1. Mercedes buys McL
2. They part ways never to meet again.
this car will be last run of SLR's and will be the closest to the REAL Mila Millia SLR.

Daimler AG actually owns 40% of McLaren already, but from what I've read in the magazines McLaren has been disappointed with the way Mercedes has marketed the SLR as their own and left McLaren out of the picture. Doesn't look like Benz needs McLarens involvement anyways, the new exotic sports car they have been testing looks pretty sleek even under all the camo.

McLaren SLR Speedster spied--by Mercedes!
AutoWeek
by Greg Kable
McLaren and Mercedes-Benz are planning one last batch of SLR supercars--a speedster version with no roof and minimal windscreens.
It looks as if someone caught a prototype of the car on his video camera and posted it on YouTube.
But look again--that's a pretty slick video with lots of angles of the car. We have it on good authority that the YouTuber is Mercedes.
So here's what we know about the SLR Speedster:
-- Expect an unveiling at the Detroit auto show in January, but none of the cars will be sold in the United States (legal stuff, we're sure.)
-- The price is expected to be around $1.2 million (750,000 euros).
-- This will be the last version of the SLR, and also likely the end of production cooperation between Mercedes and McLaren.
-- The SLR Speedster is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss.
-- Production will be limited to 75 units. Most are expected to end up in the Middle East.
-- The SLR Speedster is about 450 pounds lighter than the SLR. It uses the same supercharged 5.4-liter V8, with a horsepower rating of about 645. Top speed is 218 mph, with a 0-to-186-mph run taking 26 seconds.

Yeah sure is a sad story.
SLR is a beautiful car. Its gorgeous. They should have marketed it a different way but who am I to say how they do things LOL.
Anyways the speedster looks pretty cool. But for a 1.2 mill are you crazy!

If they can drop weight with 400-500 pounds and just sort the SBC or remove it, (but keep the carbon disks) we are in for one of THE greatest cars powered by one of the greatest engines, and this time it should be a bit more Mclearn and a bit less Merc.
