Awesome!!! What did you think of the SLS over all? I was at the June 12th basic course. We drove CLK 63 BS for our in-car video.

The SLS was just amazing at least from a beginners point of view. Acceleration, braking, and cornering were all flawless. The exhaust note is sweet with its growl while accelerating and grumble and burble while dropping revs. This is one beautiful car.

could you give us your thoughts on the pro event (3 days?) as contrasted with the advanced driving (2days)? thanks for sharing the video.

i got to drive several SLS at dunsfold ( same track as top gear ) i though it a
very fast , accomplished car . It sounds great and handles very well indeed .
If im super critical id say the gear box doesnt change down on command every time (on track anyway ) and the car doesnt have the playful character of the clk amg black series .

Was there a limit on how fast y'all could drive the SLS?

For me, the limit was as fast as I felt comfortable with. My instructor was in a car in front of me. I was supposed to keep about three car lengths between us. If I started closing on him, he would speed up thus allowing me to go as fast as I wanted. I did not have the skill to go anywhere close to the speeds the SLS was capable of. I did not look at the speedo much either, mostly keeping my eyes on the track, but I did notice 130 MPH down the back stretch at one point.

Hey WT and jenk, what do you both think of those CLK Black Series? I drove one at Road Atlanta and thought it was one awesome car. WT, I think I know what you mean by "playful character." It seemed to feel right at home on a road course. Nimble and fast, I found it to be a real blast to drive. I honestly think I liked its driving characteristics better than the SLS.

the clk black is more agile, almost darty feeling compared to the sls, which definitely feels more planted but still very responsive. a tight track is where the clk would be more at home. a course like road atlanta would favor the sls.

I agree about the driving characteristics . Personally i prefer the clk 6.3 amg black series to the sls as a pure , for fun driving machine . I think its more agile and more adjustable on the throttle / easier to slide . Turns in better too .
The sls is a more rounded car no doubt and possibly faster round most tracks but for me ,it doesnt feel as special as the Black .
I dont know about the sls but the Black has a huge range of adjustment available in the suspension and a lot of tuners offer fantastic upgrades ( engine etc ) . Check out this forums clk 6.3 AMG Black Series section for more information .

i love the clk on the track. they did an awesome job with the tranny( even without blips on down shifts) and some how shrinking the car around you on the track. where, you dont feel like your driving a car that weighs almost 4000lbs.

Lets not forget...the SLS, although an new model, is just another AMG...The Black Series is an AMG that is tuned and modified by the Performance Studio. I'm sure the SLS is great, but even without drivi one, I can tell that it's not the well balanced package that you get with a Balck Series. With that being said, I'd venture to say the CLK Black Series is the best all round performance car MB has ever made.

Don't get me wrong...

I love the Hell out of a CLK BS - However the figures don't lie.

The SLS is a much faster car on a track and in a straight line.
