An expensive flop
Saw my first SLS in a dealer showroom yesterday.
Big ugly beast , but the killer was fully loaded £192,000 = $245000.
There are some far better cars you can buy for less than that.
To top it, I am 5.9 and way 200lbs and struggled to get in, when they shut the door it was horrible, so no good if your claustrophobic.
It needs to have more room and a V12 or V8TT engine for that money.
Neither a cruiser or a supercar, god knows what type of customer it will
appeal to. It was white with red leather, if any body wants some pics, let
me know.

Clearly its not the car for you, but its definitely not a "flop". It doesn't need any of those engines either. This car is a performer and its supposed to be lighter than your average Mercedes so a heavy TT V12 defeats the purpose. There is a stronger version coming in a few years, the Black Series version. It should have over 600hp.

You certainly hate the SLS, that is clear from all your posts. You have been bashing it since day one.
I love it. It is completely bad *** and has all the right parts to make it one of the best cars AMG has ever developed.
Did you even drive it?

While there may be better cars you can buy for 192, you can certainly find a bunch for more that are no better either.

although I could buy one with a struggle it would annoy me that I had to work
very hard for it. I am no millionaire who could buy one from petty cash. I
think 100k for a car has to be justified, so even if I could get in and out of it without a struggle, and loved the look I think 190 is whey over the top.

Another thing is nobody likes the 6.3 nat *** engine, in fact you could say if anything is a flop it's that. I have never seen a compliment about this engine.
Everyone goes on about the 55 and 65 engine, so why put this engine which
is basically disliked in the SLS. The V12TT may be heavy but it's got the grunt and everyone loves it.

everyone has their own tastes; still it is possible to apply certain objective criteria to any car, and when you do this it is starkly obvious that the sls with the 63 engine is among the handful of great- and i bet enduring- supercars. your sl63 is a wonderful car; however the sls is transcendantly beyond that. anyone who has driven one has to be impressed by what mb has achieved. interestingly, it's not that much more expensive that a loaded sl and cheaper than a sl65 and far more car.

My SL is pretty much fully loaded and was only 108K , a loaded 65 is only
going to be around 160k. It seems you and I are among a few who like the 63 engine.

190ish is not possible as of yet. every one I have seen is $30k+ over sticker. I'm hoping to get one next year, when inventory and prices settle.

Most guys that can put down $200+K are sucessfull financially and take care of themselves as not to be overweight. Might want to check out CTS V.

I believe test drives will be available shortly, I agree it's more bad *** than the SL, and believe me I don't hate it, I still have a value for money brain, and

I love cars and have had nice ones, but the day I plunk down $200+K for a car I better be in the seven figures club.

If you are not banking at least $20k/mo, you are not in this league.

Here, let me fix that for you. . .
Saw my first LFA in a dealer showroom yesterday.

Which leads me to my point. there is no formula for this. If you can swing it all the more power to you.

Although I didn't say that I agree. The LFA is a wonderful exciting raw
thrilling machine , and put together better than anything out their. The SLS
is not raw enough to be a street fighter like the cars it was tested against,
it was designed as a grand cruiser so really doesn't fit in either bracket.
They should have forgotten the doors which the novelty Will rapidly wear off,
and just made a convertible, then it will be heavier and slower, and the
SL63 will be a better choice with 80k change.
As far as having to be a millionaire to buy these your talking rubbish, some guys with ordinary jobs have very expensive hobbies and spend every penny on them.

How can anyone degrade a car solely from it's looks? At least drive it first! I traveled to Frankfurt from Phila last Sept to see the intro of the SLS at the auto show and was "wowed" by it's looks. Then I went to Laguan Seca last Nov and drove at least 6 of them at the track. That was my 8th AMG driving event including a McLaren SLR one in Miami. Without question, the SLS is the finest car I've ever driven, including a Ferrari Daytona years ago, and the experience made me decide to place my order. The SLS was hands down the best handling AMG compared to virtually every other model at the track events.
I also own an '08 S63 and find nothing wrong with the engine although I don't like the 7-speed trans as compared to the former 5-speed that was in my S55 and also in my G55 and SL55. Speaking of the SL, it is an '03 with only 16,500 miles and has the Renntech 540hp upgrade. I am about to place for sale in the low 40's if anyone is interested. Every option including Distronic that I have come to love. 0-60 clocked in 4.15 sec.
My SLS is in production now in Imola Grey with the special tan interior. Should arrive here late Oct or early Nov. Dream about it most nights...
