Still Deciding on the colour - Alubeam???
Is Alubeam really that good in person??
I haven't seen it, however from the pictures it seems as though it is the only colour that I would really like to order.
Having stated this.... It's $27,600 USD extra in Australia which is no doubt a lot of money.
This is the combo I would order.

Condor Man,
i was, or still in the same shoes as u. tough decision. i'm be back to SLS if PCNA can't approve the PTS change on my 3RS.
i was trying to figure out what's the best color to get. i love the Alubeam until i saw in the outdoor overcast weather. it is too champagne/gold for my taste. remind me of the Pewter color on MB. unless u like the gold-ish shade, i wouldn't recommend it. certainly not worth the extra $$$. however, i love the fine metallic ''liquid'' effect but it's in the wrong shade. i wish it's in pure silver shade like the new alu silver trim in the new Panamera & Cayenne. that would be a total winner.
i talked to AMG about ordering it in SLR's Silver Arrow Silver but they refused it. i think the best color for the car is silver but i just don't like the fact that the Irdium Silver is so common u can find it in C-class.
my color combo would be one of this:
1. Irdium Silver with red/black 2 tones interior. alu console - classic Gullwing combo, can't go wrong with it, but should be very common combo...
2. Imola Grey with light brown interior. CF console or alu console - would be a classic combo itself. love the fact that MB use thicker texture leather for the seats if u pick the light brown interior. the leather reminds me the Ascot interior Porsche used on CGT, rather than the regular smooth leather. the leather will be more durable & shows less wear imo.
good lock on the decision.

I would suggest getting the car in the cheapest available colour option and then get the car wrapped in what ever colour takes your fancy. Even here in Australia it will definately cost less than half the US$27k MB are trying to get from you, closer to one third the cost actually

I am surprised that you say it comes up in Champagne as I have never seen a photo that depicts this.
In my attached photos the car doesn't look Champagne at all. Here are some more that I really like the look of.
If I don't go with this colour I may go with a Matte paint which is on the whole other side of the scale!!

Versus ordering the Alubeam which is $29,876 AUD.
I just feel that the Alubeam will be an amazing colour that will be extremely unique. It's just B/S how much they charge for it......

back to Alubeam, as much as i like the color, i want to think it's just the right shade of silver i love, but turn out to be not. u really can't decide color based on pictures. however, if u've seen it in person & u love it, that's all it takes for u to go for it. i'm sure it'll look great in bright sun light, but it didn't do it for me in the gloomy day when i saw it, too much champagne for it. u can't go wrong with it. just have to be in love with it.
although i don't suggest u to look at the pics anymore, here're some pics i took of it.

last minute color change. PCNA did not give us any notice but locked the order. i think we missed by a day maybe. i'm requesting a change to see what happens. if they don't approve it, i don't need the car.

I think under yellow light, like in your first photo it may come up champagne and the same under yellow sun.
By the way, what colour change did you want for the rs??

Never the less, the car does handle on rails. Having stated this, I have only driven a test car as my car comes in 7 days.

that's all it takes if u love it. i think u'll love the Alubeam but i still wish u see it in person first before making the decision.
as for my 3, i submitted a 356 grey color but PAG/Exclusive rejected it. then i switched to Rivi but found the order is locked. i'll find out this week if they're pushing me to MB.

I quickly jumped in an SLS yesterday down at the local MB here in Sydney by coincidence and found it quite a nice fit. I 'perused' the cattle dog and thought also the alu paint was by far the best otherwise imola grey.
Still think I'll wait for the roadster though. Well see.

So does that mean they have an Alubeam in Sydney to be viewed??

Here are a couple of pics of my SLS, taken with a iphone camera. I bought the car sight unseen, had the same misgivings as you do, but the alubeam paint is perfect IRL (but hard to photog), so no regrets.
