Do door(s) open remotely via the key fob?

As the handle appears to be 18 or so inches low to the ground, is either door opened and then closed via a button on the key fob?

In the photo below, is the SLS handle somewhat popped out, or is this a normal position?

Thanks~!

the pic u posted is the position which the car is unlocked. once locked the door handle retract back to be flushed with the door. the door itself doesn't pop open when u unlock the door.

So you're saying that the SLS door(s) do not open up remotely...

...and therefore the driver must STOOP or REACH DOWN to manipulate the door handle that's half-way to the ground (by most car's standards)?

Doors on SLS coupe are manual open

I speculate that if door open assist was considered, it was probably rejected for priority to lower weight and MY 2012 doors are same as MY 2011 doors.

At 5' 10" reaching to open doors for ingress or closing doors while seated is not a major inconvenience for me.

If the Gullwing design does not work for you and you still want an SLS, perhaps you might consider the SLS roadster since it uses conventional doors.

it's a liability issue. they won't do the remote door open just can be for that reason alone. i spotted the possible door handle location issue for someone, especially for elderly people before the car came out. then i tried it in person which was better than i thought. oh well, i guess nothing is perfect.

It's those doors and canvas top that make the SLS convertible particularly ordinary, whereas the SLS Gullwing is a fair rendition of its 1950's counterpart and unique even by today's standards.

The SLS handles aren't a deal breaker, I need to see the car when I get back to Atlanta this fall... thanks!

if you can't bend down to open door on SLS, you probably can't get into the car since the door sill is WIDE, hard to get into... then, if you can't do that... you probably shouldn't drive this car... get a Maybach with a driver.

There would be a lot more SLS's in showrooms if buyers thought that way. Many of the 200-500 mile used SLS's I've seen were bought by 55+ year olds who "just can't get in and out easily." Local guy traded a SLS with 200 miles on a new Jag XKR because he "didn't expect that kind of car."

The "what's the hottest expensive car Mercedes makes right now? A SLS? I don't know what I'm buying, but I'll take it" buyers are out in full force. I decided to take the plunge and order so I can enjoy it before I reach that age. I've driven one in anger around Road Atlanta, so I know what I'm getting into. As Clarkson said, "its a Viper, made by people who know how to make cars." It's not a soft, wobbly grand tourer.

LOL, it's not about being able, it's about prestige & luxury.. "dammit, if I'm going to spend couple hundred grand then I shouldn't have to bend over"

Sorry to bring this back up, but how are the doors in normal parking situations? How much room do you need on either side to let the doors up? This is one of my biggest worries about getting an sls...

They require less space than a conventional door. An example of a Delorean, which requires just 11 inches of clearance.
