Faster gearshift?
I'm in the market for an SLS coupe. I've had a 2011 before and I hated the slow response from when you click for next gear till it actually happens.
On the 2014 onward models this has supposedly been dramatically improved so my question is:
Is there a software update to rectify this issue on a 2011/2012 model?
Will an ECU flash or other aftermarket upgrade improve it and if so, how much improvement?

There is a software update in the system for pre-GT SLS that basically give them the GT software in the US. Should be pretty easy for a tech to find. It's a night and day difference, especially in manual mode.

Has anyone had actual experience on the Pre-SLS GT shifts and the 2013 onward GT shifts? The reason I'm asking is that before I bought my SLS GT last year, while doing my research, just like most here, I read the "slow" upshifts on the pre-2013 cars. After I got the SLS GT, driving it at the beginning, I thought the shifts were slow around town, and thought, man, if the GT's shifts are this slow, the pre-GT shifts must be really slow... Then, I was pleasantly surprised that the first time I took the SLS GT to the back mountain roads, how quickly the shifts were executed, then, I realized that, at least for the 2013-onward cars, the shifts are quite fast, when driven somewhat aggressively. Therefore, I'm wondering are the complains about the "slowness" in shifting for the pre-2013 cars were the results of simply driving around town, instead of driving a bit more aggressively in the twisties or on track.
Or, it is really true that the pre-2013 SLS's shifts are slower. The inquiring mind wants to know..

yes it is slower than the GT,
you could almost notice the moment you click on the paddle and wait for it to response, the shift is not slow.. but the transition from paddle to metal.. if I could call it.
even being a passnger in this car can feel the shifts are slow response if you see the driver's finger.
its still a dct, with cool shifting sound etc.. its just not fast enough.. and sometimes give you lack of control.. won't downshift at wrong times (I believe to protect engine and transmission).. but ferrari's hold up same..
and If I am not mistake it has a similar gearbox to 458's...

If there was no discernible difference then there wouldn't be an update. The update greatly improves shift time and characteristics.

yeah, it was a weird story, shipped him headlights, they were damaged in shipping, he flipped out and demanded money back, money sent, then he decided to keep them and use the parts but skipped the country after and never paid
