I would imagine a black on black color scheme gives you some exclusivity. Interesting wheels.

Thanks
I like the drive. It's a commuter, saving gas, so at only 70 HP I can't say it compares to my other Mercedes-Benz cars to include my 1959 220S.
But on the freeway at 80 mph it feels good. I got the electronic power steering option, and it came standard with electronic stability program (ESP), anti-lock braking system (ABS) and tire pressure monitoring (TPM).

I'm not going to go with the BRABUS upgrade or after-market wheels or anything like that. I like the way it looks. I might just buy an extra set of panels in either white or silver, just to mix it up every once in a while.

As for accessories:
  • all weather floor mats
  • sunglass compartment and CD holder
  • net set for the luggage compartment
  • the luggage compartment management system
  • car cover
  • luggage compartment retractable cover
  • safety plus package (emergency jacket, first-aid kit, warning triangle, flashlight, ice scraper, replacement lamp box, & smart umbrella)

haven't seen too many with the "black on black" pattern.
The wheels are stock smart 9-spoke wheels, powder-coated in glossy black. When I took delivery, I saw them on the showroom wall, and asked if I could get those wheels instead, and they hooked me up.

Check out the crash-test videos on YouTube. The safety cell is stronger than most regular cars. The whole exterior panel sections will shatter, but the positioning of the passengers is designed purposely to be centered. A hit from any angle absorbs pretty much the same amount of energy. If you watch the video, this little thing gets hit hard, and sure you'll spin and all 4 airbags will go off, but in the end the doors will open and you'll walk out.

I'm more prone to get in an accident speeding in my C-Class than putting around in my luxury golf cart !

Carlos, congratulations!

I was thinking about getting one as well, down the road.

We are looking for a car to do some simple bolton mods and software is done, we just need to test it.

PM me if you are interested.

Thumbs up Smart Fever!

Well, well well... long, long time that I have not posted in this forum... just wanted to congratulate Carlos on his purchase!... out of all the toys I've ever had, the purchase of my Smart was (and still is) one of the ones I like the most!...

Mine ist Gen 1 Smart, which since was (at the time) not available in the US for direct purchase, in one of my trips over the pond, I just went and purchased one : )... as you can see from the pics, I got mine with leather interior, heated seats, A/C + the Smart iPod integration kitt + Brabus Sound Pack (there is a subwoofer under the drivers's seat which completed sets out the sound system in the car) + Smart Navi System which is detachable (while docked with the car, it will integrate automatically with the car's sound system and when undocked, the system has it's own speaker)...

This toy (Smart) is about 2 years old now ... of course back then, when I got the smart I got what was "then" the "new" S that was not even available in the us then.. I never posted the video here until now, so here it is.. (sorry for the unrelated link Carlos)

I want to get the smart iPod integration kit as well as the smart Navi system. I don't know if those are available for the Gen 2 U.S. version smart. I also heard that Cruise Control may be coming soon too !

Smile Crow indeed is back...

Mr Saprissa!!!...

I must apologize that it's taken me so long to get back to ya!... school never seems to end for me... there is always a post, post, post degree to get...

Ok.. Gen 2 Smart you can get BOTH, iPod / iPhone Car integration Kitt and the Navi.

The iPod integration kitt was originally the reason why I got the toy, it works perfectly... if you have an iPhone, works even better.

After having seen what canibalistic things the MB dealers did with my AMGs in Cali, I went back to what we havealways done in my fam.... European cars in Europe, American (more like "American" with quotes that would be more appropriate) cars in America... so the US "toys" are quite on hand and up todate : ).

I'm glad you got your Smart For Two, the options to load on these little toys are just insane...lol

Cheers!

Smile Cruise Control

Mr Saprissa,

Also, if you want to get the cruise control, that is a piece of cake... when I ordered mine, I completely fogot about that thing and the day I picked the car up I noticed, ordered the parts, had it installed in a couple of hours and you are done.

If you need the parts asap... let me know, I can always make a few calls for you, just the prices will be in Euros, but well worth it...

Cheers

Post Cruising and Controlling...

Mr Saprissa...

Just in case you can't control yourself and you must order the items...

Navi
Navi... is the Smart authentic Navi System. Software and the device itself is designed by Garmin. When you buy the device your options are to get the maps predownloaded on to the device itself and / or you can always goto the Smart/Garmin Website and download just as many maps as you want (paid subscription I think).

What I did for my toy, is that it has an expansion card, and on that I load the maps I want... for ex. you can download the entire US and Canada on the card and you are done...

iPod
iPhone / iPod Integration Kitt.. that is the simplest of the mods... you plug the stuff in, set your car stereo system to "phone in" to "on" and that is it... everything else works...

Cruise Control
The parts are all standard the same for all Gen 2, just that with the system it comes a Software update that has to be downloaded via the Star System so that the Car computer board will recognize the Cruise control installed on the car... for that, MB likes to have your car VIN, as the updates are configured for your car and your car alone... if you want this, I will need that number (VIN) of your toy so that I can get a quote based on your car.

Bose Subwoofer
Which goes underneeth the driver's seat... best thing you will ever get... it completes the sound system on your toy... that one is an expensive one, cause just the Brabus people have something up their (you know what) : )

Cheers

So, this works on a smart Type 451, the new version? That is interesting. A company in the USA is developing an add-on cruise module for the 451.

I got my OEM cruise in my Type 450 activated a year ago via a TAN code etc, and it truly is a fantastic change. The M-B dealers in Canada won't do it, but an independent in Richmond BC with a Star System did it for me.

Thanks for the good info. I don't have an iPhone, but will definitely look into the iPod and Navi.

Thanks. Yes, I know a few people out here in SoCali that are looking for a cruise control feature. I heard there was some rumblings in the smart forum about a Cruise Control option being brought to the USA in a few months. I don't know if this was an aftermarket option or original smart parts. As you know me... I prefer original manufacturer parts and features, so if you could send me a parts-list (and prices in Euros is OK) that would be great. Maybe I can tally up who else wants this cruise control feature, and we can all order together with money in hand.

Thank you
Carlos
