Admins Merge W166 AMG ML/GLE/GL Forums into One Forum

Admins,

Can you please merge the W166 ML/GLE/GL forums into one area? I believe this will help visibility for issues/concerns that forum members post about and will also increase the traffic for this vehicle lines on the forums. Right now the ML/GLE/GL owners all post in their own individual forum spots when we could all be working together since we all realistically have the same vehicle just with different nomenclature.

I've posted this in the threads but have not received any feedback from Admins. However, group members do agree that these forums should be merged into 1.

Thanks in advance.

Just incase more persuasion is needed. At this current moment the following groups member viewing count is as follows:
  • GL63 AMG - 4
  • GLE63 & GLE63 Coupe AMG - 0
  • ML63 W166 - 2
That is 6 total viewers. Granted that is not much in the grand scheme of things, but for these forum groups which generally do not have many posters or viewers; it is a lot. If we were able to combine these three groups together (even in the non AMG applications) it would give more visibility to issues and experiences from posters and viewers. Especially since the W166 is both an ML and a GLE with minor refreshments. And the GL is an X166 which is basically an elongated W166. The three vehicle lines were/are all made at the same assembly plant and share identical components for the most part.

I believe if we could just combine the heading and name it the following:

ML63, GLE63, GL63 (W166, X166)
Discuss W166 2011-2019
Discuss X166 2013-2019

it would be the best route.

What do you think?

I think this is a good idea and I support it. Thanks for putting it on the table for consideration. @speedlimit is this possible?

Thank you for the consideration!

When the W166 and X166 group is merged. It might be beneficial to also make the W167 and X167 group as well for the new 2021 GLS and GLE models.

Thank you!

Actually, I was just doing some browsing on the W212 AMG forums and the group interaction in there makes me jealous; to say the least. If the W166 groups had a fraction of that, we would be in a great place! haha.

We are reluctant to create forums that do not follow our format. We get the reasoning behind your suggestion but that's not especially consistent with how the forum is set up. Our sub-forums are generally one model/generation with the occasional model variations combined (i.e., GTS, GTC, GTR). We are starting to go through all the forums to cleanup the forum descriptions. I.E. add production years when known etc. We will revisit this again and thank you for your suggestion!

@speedlimit Just a question - how are the ML/GLE/GL W/X166 M157 not allowed to be merged but the C450/C43 AMG forums are merged? Especially with the fact that the C450 does not carry an AMG nameplate. I understand its the same drivetrain - but so are the ML/GLE/GL.

Please reconsider the W/X166 ML/GLE/GL forum merge for increased forum activity. Because it is disappointing at the volume of forum posts in these 3 separate groups asking the same questions that would be quicker answered if there was one group encompassing the W/X166 AMG lineup.....

@chassis can we get more W/X166 group members to back this up? You are one of the most active and value added members that I have seen in my 17 years part of these forums and I believe you agree with my recommendation of merging.

I agree with merging.

My opinion is that the owners/moderators of this site do not appear to want to expend the effort to merge the forum sections. That’s their choice.

While I don’t prefer the current layout, they own and manage the site, and in the end they are responsible. Other members have probably seen this thread on merging forum sections, and possible don’t feel strongly enough to chime in.

@speedlimit Hoping the MBWorld team can look into this merge again. With production of the W/X166 ending it would be beneficial for all questions on the 3 platforms to be in one group. Thanks in advance!

I concur with merging the AMG forums across the W166, X166, W167, and X167 platforms.

agree, platforms are so similar - parts and mods are nearly identical (if not the same).

E.g. downpipes are the same for W166 and X166.
Engine bay is nearly identical, except a Renntech BOV that fits a W166 does not fit a X166 (hits the coolant line).

After thinking about it some more - I believe this should not just be limited to the AMG forums but also the standard SUV ML/GLE/ML W166 forums. Let's try and make this happen!

@speedlimit Hi Speedlimit, can we please revisit the idea of merging the W166 AMG and Non-AMG forums (ML,GLE,GL) based on the common interest of all of the forum members that visit these groups. Like mentioned in this thread before, these vehicles are essentially the same with the ML and GLE only having a change in naming convention and the GL adding a 3rd row. It does not make sense to have all 3 of these separated, but at the same time having the W166 and W167 groups merged when they do not share as many similarities as the W166 ML/GLE/GL.

I will add my support for what it is worth. I browse both W166 and X166 as I have both models in the family.

Agree - There is no reason what so ever for the W167 to be merged with W166. I can't believe they actually were either.

@speedlimit and any other admins, can we at least revisit merging the W166 ML with the W166 GLE forum? Same with merging the X166 GL with X166 GLS?

I understand that it was declined earlier this year, but with the merging of all other update chassis codes (W166 with W167) it does not make sense that the original nameplate of the W166 (ML) is not included with W166 GLE...

I believe it will aid in the revival of the SUV areas of this forum.

This place is a joke.
.....yet the ML63/ML55 AMG forums are merged! Two completely different vehicles that have nothing in common. Huh?
