W201 forum?
nice 190E 2.6 (W201), isn't it?
Would you please explain to me how to read the german number plates. The first two letters symbolizes the town where you live, right? So would LÖ stand for Löttingen??? Every year when I travel thru Germany I try to figure out where the owner live, but sofar I didn't manage to see a pattern.
Yepp, very nice!

Lö stands for Lörrach - and it's not the city I live in, it's the "Landkreis" (region where your city belongs to)
some examples:
B : Berlin
FR : Freiburg
S : Stuttgart
DD : Dresden
M : Munich
next letters (up to two) are free choosen, or if automatically selected by the registration office, it shows in which year the car has been permitted. And the numbers (from 2 to 4 numbers, for motorcycles 1 to 3 I think) have no special purpose.

here some specs of my sweet little 190E (called "weißer Blitz" - white lightning):

- 10-12l consumption (95-octan)
- Koni shock absobers
- lowering springs
- Coupé hood
- black tail lights

The 190 introduced the single wiper system to MB vehicles
The 190 was the lightest sedan MB made since the 1930's
The computer designed multi-link suspension debuted on the 190
Following its 1984 into in the US, the 190 became MB's best seller
The 16 valve 2.3 and 2.5 twin cam heads were designed by Cosworth
A couple of DTM championships
Can we please have a W201 forum?
Mercedes chose the W201 to celebrate the opening of the new circuit at Nurburgring with a race of 20 identical cars featuring Prost, Lauda, but the event was won by some unknown driver named Senna . . .
The DTM W201's campaigned without direct factory support in 1985 and Daimler gave factory help later in 1988 and the W201 went on to rack up 50 DTM race wins against BMW, Opel, Audi, Alfa and others.
- 1986: An AMG Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 records two victories in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM).
- 1988: The AMG Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 takes four wins in the German Touring Car Championship, Mercedes-Benz and AMG strike up an official partnership in motorsport.
- 1989: AMG is the most successful team in the DTM, with Klaus Ludwig and Johnny Cecotto notching up seven race wins at the wheel of the AMG Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution I.
- 1990: Premiere of the more powerful 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II.
- 1991: AMG Mercedes finishes top of the team standings and Klaus Ludwig is the most successful driver. Mercedes-Benz takes the constructors’ title. The DTM is at the peak of its powers, with the races attracting an audience of over 153 million.
- 1992: AMG Mercedes again takes the team honours and Mercedes-Benz the constructors’ crown. Klaus Ludwig is the DTM champion driving an AMG Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. Ellen Lohr becomes the fist woman to win a round of the DTM – at the wheel of an AMG Mercedes – whilst former Formula 1 World Champion Keke Rosberg also drives for the team.
- 1993: Roland Asch finishes runner-up in the DTM in an AMG Mercedes. This proves to be the farewell season for the AMG Mercedes 190 E, the winner of 50 races.
Imagine, having to put on a supercharger to make a Mercedes go faster! AMG and Cosworth didn't seem to have that problem with the W201's. I guess with all that computer stuff onboard, GPS, telephones and Command units, they've gotten a bit thick around the waist! :p

Competition is gettin harder.. might as well win in the long run
