Gas Mileage for E55 W210

just picked up a very clean 99 E55 the other week and i am curious what sort of gas mileage should i expect. i've filled it up twice now, and the last fill up i went 250 miles for 15 gallons = 16.6 mpg. this seems to be a little low but i dont know since this is my first experience with this car.

driving was a combination of highway/city miles. could it be im accelerating too much

haha my tank was coming up on dry and I had 196miles on it. It's all int he driving. When I do freeway only, I get almost 400 miles. With Chevron gas it feels like it's burning faster. I did 94 miles and almost hit 1/2 a tank lol. But then I drove it like it was meant to be

lol thanks for the quick reply...so it is indeed my lead foot guess i was use to the 350 mpg i got on my C class.

btw you did a really nice job on your front lights, godfather. your pictures inspired me to change out my fog lights and low beam. i went with the spark blues for the fog lights and xtreme white plus for the low beams. also changing the side marker to clear lens and xtreme white wedge bulbs. hope this will look clean.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm actually gonna do HID in the foglights since one of my bulbs burned out. AT $75 a pair and only available from Japan, I figure I'm better off with HID. As for the sidemarkers, I say just paint them body color. IT looks so much cleaner that way.

I just averaged 22 mpg on a trip to the beach and I have also gotten as low as 10mpg in the past...Id say that I average around 14 so youre not doing bad, its hard to keep your foot from going 3/4 of the way down at all times

you both make me feel better about the mpg...speed comes at cost of fuel, thanks again. just filled her up for third time so gonna see what i get this time.

off topic, but what PSI do you run for your tires...the door label says 41/48 for front/rear - that seems high.

On a recent trip from MD to MA I was trying to see what the best gas mileage I could average. With cruise control on and set to 75 I averaged 25.8 mpg according to the trip computer over 483 miles. On the way back I was alot more aggressive so I barely got over 22 mpg.

I average around 15/16 in city and 25 on highway. It has a 21 gallon tank and makes for a real road trip car. I like being able to get 400 miles to a tank on the road and not having to fill up so much.

ImaginAsian, I own a 2001 E55. I will paste the post I made from 2003 below

>>I rather doubt most of us put this at the top of our likes for our cars, but I am really pleased with the fuel mileage I am getting from my 01 E-55. Overall, in over 8,000 miles my computer says average consumption of 20.7 (combined city/hwy).

On a recent 3 day trip, I drove about 700 miles, about 90% was highway, and got 24.5 on the first day, and on the last day 25.6, with average speed of 67mph (included long stretches of 85-90).

Frugally, Mac<<

Ok now in July 2005, I have just under 20,000 miles. A few days ago made a 295 mile drive -$5 WalMart portable lunch carrier with blue ice and a thermos of coffee kept me from stopping in Baker or Barstow - trip meter said avg 75mph and 23.2mph. The return trip 2 days later I made a 2 stops, but also 25 minute backup on the I-15 just west of Baker - four cars in massive wreck - so average was 70mph, and 22.8mpg.

I still say that this is a great combination of power and efficiency, the 5.5 liter engine.

thanks for the info mac, im about 1/3 into this fill up and im at 106 miles so far. will see what it ends up being.

been thinking to get K&N filters to help the mpg a bit, any added HP is a bonus for me...thoughts gang?

2001 E55
On 2 recent long distance road trips my 2001 averaged 24.5mpg on the highway with the A/C on the whole way....average speed 79mph.....very impressive for a car with this much power. I do a fair amount of city type driving and I get about 16-17mpg in those situations.

To contrast, my 1995 Nissan 200sx SE-R beater gets 26mpg on the highway...

Needless to say, given how close they are in mileage the beater doesn't get driven because there's no reason to... I should sell it....

Yes, and the K&N's won't do much for your mileage. Just make sure not to over oil them, or you will be replacing the MAF whether it's bad now or not.
