decisions, decisions...

I am a new member and I would like to pose a question...

If you had the opportunity to drive across country which car would you drive?

My choices are a 1990 Porsche Carrera 2 Tiptronic or a 2000 e 55.
Both mint and reliable with low miles and no mods other than tires and springs

Help a newbie out.

The E55. It's more of a touring vessel, unlike the more sporting nature of the Porsche.

Freeways: E55.

Curvy backroads: Porsche.

I am thinking of a long trip too, I think I will choose my E55 and leave the 911 at home.

E55
Personally I'd take the Porsche for the driving pleasure. I can't imagine the 2000 model E55 is really that exciting. Now if your choice was a 2003+ E55 or the Porsche, then I'd take the E55. I did a 2,000 mile trip in my E55 at the start of the year and it was magic.

Thanks for the input! I am leaning toward the 911 but as always, the case can be made either way. I will let you know the fianl decision soon.

If you're 18-25, then the Porsche. Older than that, then the luxury of the E- no doubt.

This would be an easy choice for me -- the E55. Comfort will be key, especially when you get past the first several hundred miles. It's a big country. The Porsche is a small car.

No offense, but you got to give more props to the W210 E55. That car is still a pretty potent cruising machine, especially for a cross country trip. The stealth factor should also help with the highway patrol...they seem to spot a Porsche a lot more :v !

OK, now here is a harder question: would you sell/trade the Porsche for an e55?(obviously not an even trade)

The details:

1990 Carrera 2 Tiptronic, 19,000 miles. Mint, stock except for H@R Springs and Konis. Guards Red/Black.

2000 e55 Silver/Black 40,000 miles, all options, New Michelins(less the 500miles), one owner, garaged, records, extra MB wheels with Nokian Snows, asking 29K.

Thoughts?...

It really depends on your needs and likes. It looks as if you are already very familiar with the 210 platform. I'm sure you know that the 210 won't handle nearly as well as your 964. The 210 E55 should best it in a straight line. Seeing that you already have 2 210s, I wouldn't do it. I will say however that the 210 E55 is a completely different beast than the normal 210. Why not replace one of the 320s w/ the 55?
