Aussie E55 pricing
Pricing for the W211 E55 has increased from $192,000 for the W210 to $217,000 for the W211, plus on road costs in Australia. This may give you an indication of anticipated prices in the US. Pricing for other models (E320, E500) is not much different from W210 to W211, so there appears to be a significant price increase for the new AMG.

OMG!, you Aussie's pay a lot of money for cars in the OutBack! When converted $192k (AUD) is $104,621 (USD) and $217,000 (AUD) is $118,243 (USD).
Stephens, the base price on the 2003 E500 is $54,850 (USD) or $100,716 (AUD). What is the OutBack base price on the E500?

Whew! That is a big difference.
In Australia a E500 cost $154,000 - this equals $83,914 in the America.

Aussies are paying more than 50% over US prices.

Import duties are one thing, but we pay a "Luxury Car Tax" of 35% on the price above $51K. You guys complain about a 3% LCT, we should be so lucky.

Yes, we pay way too much in Australia for Euro luxuries, but I think the price increase is fair considering how much more horses will be under the hood in the new model.
Stephens, I think this is the first time I've seen a fellow Melbournian on the site (not sure why I didn't pick this up earlier). Just out of curiosity, which dealership do take your car into for services? I take mine to Doncaster Silver Motors where I bought the car in the first place. btw, Just saw the new E-Class (270 CDI) this morning when I was at the dealers, luv the interior.

You can use he Aussie pricing to predict the US pricing by the percentage price increase. Our pricing for the Avantgarde E320, for example, is is $1000 cheaper than the outgoing model, but apparently the sunroof is now optional, so as you guys have seen there is no real price change there, which is the same as the US. Pricing for the E55 has increased from $192,000 to $219,0000, an increase of approx 15%. I was told to expect this a few months ago. You can expect the US E55 pricing to increase similarly.

I agree...
for those who think the new E55 will be similarly priced to the old one have another thing coming....I think the car will start in the mid 80's, given price increases everywhere else, plus the addition of gass guzzler tax.....a fully loaded E55 will run in the high 90's I think.

I know I have been guessing the 2004 E55 will be close to the outgoing but I am talking about 'base price' around $73k. I don't think the following options will be standard:
Base Price $73995 (my guess)
Navigation $ 2500 (estimate)
V60 phone with VR $ 1995
Panarama Roof $ 1500
Distronic $ 2950
Keyless Go $ 1015
Dynamic Seats $ 1150
Parktronic $ 1035
Solar Panels $ 925
HK stereo $ 700
Tire Monitors $ 625
CD changer $ 400
Rear Sunshade $ 440
Gas Guzzler $ 2100 (same as SL55)
All that equals $91,330
It appears that the new Mercedes policy is reasonable base prices and then they will price you to death with options.
