Trade W210 E55 w/o Warranty for 2003 e500?
I currently have a W210 E55 with 80,000+ miles on it - no warranty. The car has been pretty much bulletproof (only had to do the engine mounts recently). My question is should I switch up to a W211 E500 with low miles and warranty or is the W210 E55 worth its weight in reliability. Should I expect any major repairs... I have had my loaded W210 from 40,000 miles... it has been good to me. Help ...opinions please..

I have both W210 E55 (2002) and E500 (2005). E500 handles and brake better than W210 E55. And much more comfortable than W210.
last week i drove a 2003 E500 and i think there are advantages because it's on a newer platform and probably stiffer chasis. i've heard some people don't like the throttle or the brakes, but i thought it drove fine. like others have said, perhaps worthwhile to get an 04. if you wait til later january or february, you should see more 3 yr old leases come off for sale...probably $25 to $29k depending on mileage.
what do you think your E55's worth? then you can try to figure out whether you want to get newer.
p.s. on my wife's leased 2000 E320 wagon, we got a postcard in the mail about getting warranty upgrade for another 50k miles. perhaps you can look into that option also? good luck.
From your feedback, however, it would seem that 2003 E500 has known issues. My main problem is that I am unable to find reasonable ($2000 or less for 2+ years) warranty coverage for the 2000 E55. The Stealers have quoted me an auction trade value of $16,000
... which is crap. The car is fully loaded (nav and all whistles) with no mechanical flaws. Wear and tear is in-line with age. I will be visiting an auction next week to peruse the E500s. Regards,

p.s. before buying my car, i asked a MB service advisor about my car, and he said the engine and transmission was bulletproof, and the common big tix items were engine mount, bushing, and ignition wirings that i needed to look out for. oh, once in a while, the catalytic converter. so if you've had some or many of these items already done, you might be in decent shape to continue owning it and "self insure."

.........If this were an E550 with the new 382HP engine, it will be a different story.
