Car cranks fast, but won't start HELP!!!
Any Idea's it just cranks fast but won't kick over. Almost like it's out of gas but it's not. Could it be fuel pump? What else should I look for

Most likely it's your CPS (Crank Position Sensor). Fairly common problem from reading this board - maybe changing it is a rite of passage for all E55 owners. ![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
The part is about $80 and takes about 5-10 minutes to change out (one bolt and one electrical connection). It's located at the back of the block on the driver's site above the ring gear.

That will be the cranksaft sensor, in the UK its ½ the price from a Bosch agent, it is a Bosch part and has Bosch and MB numbers on it
its number 5 in the link, they mesure 1kΩ when good and O/C when bad

I learned it all here when I asked for help when mine went out!
I should also mention that the failure of the CPS appears to be temperature related. If I recall, mine would fail at 85-90c. After a cool down period the car would fire right back up and drive normal until I sat in traffic or idled for any length of time.

Thanks I will try it again this weekend. The only problem is that there are some hoses in that location which makes it hard to see around. Do you know how to raise the hood up to the 90 deg. position? Maybe that will help me to see better.
