the same?
i have black opal on my cabriolet and it looks like dark metallic navy blue - that's VERY different than tectite gray which seems like gunmetal gray.

Quote: OK, so I was able to find another E55 in SoCal. 2002 with 55K. Car is located in Yorba Linda.

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

I feel kind of strange buying from a used car dealer due to lack of service history. However, the car is a one owner vehicle purchased from Mercedes Financial as a lease return. Carfax shows some services from 30K on, but nothing before that.

Anyone have any comments.

PS you guys have been very helpful. I hope to get my new ride soon.
I just clicked on this link. It's not the same one I saw at MB of Oakland.

good luck!

I haven't seen either tectite gray or black opal metallic in person, just on the computer and they looked the same. I would love to see them both up close.

Quote: After I backed out from buying Zoink's W210 E55, I saw this posted on
craigslist for $30.9k. My initial reaction was, the owner must not have
been motivated to sell it.
It's been in the market for close to 3 months now. If the trend continues
he's gonna drop the price again in about 1 month if he hasn't sold it.

good luck!
So it seems he has been trying to sell for some time. It sure was a clean car.

And the one you initially considered seem to have the price dropped... LOL

I called on the one in Burlingame and they wants $28K. I guess gray is a rarer color so I"ll probably give those a try first.

No kidding. I am watching prices on ebay and completed auctions show them selling at 20K with average miles. That is kind of why I want a good price cause I when it comes time to sell it might be tough if the asking price is unreasonable.

Being patient is the hard part, almost more than actually finding what I want. Why are there so many silver E55's. It's a nice color, but I already have a silver car and was looking for a change.

Silver is the number 1 selling color for Mercedes-Benz, the W210 E55 plus every car on the market in the US for the last couple years. Years ago it was white but now silver. Silver is MBZ halo or showcase color. Take a look around.

Originally in 1999 and maybe 2000 the W210 E55 was only available in silver, Black, Obsidian Black with a few rare white's in the US.

I have an update on the car search. My stepdad went down to look at the E55 in Yorba Linda. He is very familiar with cars and said it was very clean and had new Michelin Pilot Sport Tires, new brakes. The front bumper did have some rock chips probably due to freeway driving in Southern California.

The only issues were:
1. Outside Temperature LCD readout is going bad cause it's unreadable
2. Car may have been repainted on the drivers side. All the body panels lined up correctly and paint was excellently matched, but he noticed a very slight dimple in the paint. Had that not been there he wouldn't have noticed at all.

Other than that the car drove and sounded very good. I believe his comment to me was "holy macaroni this car is fast" I asked him if the car vibrated when deceleration and he said it did, but he remembered his old W210 E430 Sport doing the same thing years ago.

Is the LCD a big deal to fix? This car has everything I am looking for and I may be taking an imprompu trip to LA. The guy wants $27,995, but I asked him if he was firm on the price and initially he said yes, but when I told him there were several other cars with similar levels of equipment for cheaper he backed down. My target is $23K- $24K especially on this loaded example with Nav, ventilated seats, integrated phone.

Some people say it's fixable.... some don't.

I had mine replaced as the dealer told me it wasn't fixable.

But either way, since you're in CA, you may want to check whether it's covered under warranty.... from the following post, it may be covered up to 7yr/70K miles...
