Here is my 1999 E55. Bought it in August and it only had 13K miles on it. The previous owner was meticulous. The car has the CD-changer option and the phone option.
It is completely stock except that I recently replaced the MB "star" hood emblem with a flat emblem.

Yes, it probably was me in Arlington - we were making a run to Jamba Juice!
I saw a ~gorgeous~ E55 in Dallas today on 75 moving north. It was about 1" off the bumper, super clean with chrome wheels. Anyone here?
The strange thing about the E55 I saw today is that I noticed it had a "Sport" emblem along the passenger side in the front panel. Anyone know why a Sport emblem would be on an AMG? I thought maybe it was a dressed-up 430 disguised with E55 badges.

IanPooley,
Don't get me started. I'm already trying to cool it. I live everyday in the fastlane wishing for Autobahn here. Roads here are crowded with turtles.
You're lucky you have a lane set aside for normal 120mph driving, I have to carve through traffic to keep my speed in 3 digits, AND worry about government officials trying to catch me.
Plus, your encouraging remark, especially from someone close to the factory, makes me feel a little less guilty about pounding on the accelerator. When everyone else on the road is riding around like sheep (ie: "responsibly"), I can't help but think my driving style is going to shorten the life of my engine.
That said, so far I have not compromised my need for speed. Thanks to you guys, I have some fellow AMG afficionados who understand that 85mph is just plain normal, almost boring, and 120mph is not crazy at all.

One of the big problems is that the fuel in germany is very expensive. How much do u pay in the US? We pay here bout 1 dollar per liter. Imagine... one step on the gas and you loose money....
[I didn´t quite unterstand your english that way you write. Sorry. Just german]

By the way:
"Auto, Motor und Sport" [german car magazine] made a speed test: what car ist the fastest from 0 - 300 ?
Test cars: Mercedes SL 55 AMG, Lamborghini Murcielago, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Porsche GT 2, Maseratti 3200 GT.
The fastest was the SL 55 AMG with 30 secs. Second was Lamorgini with 32 and then the Porsche with 34 secs.
The SL had about 500 HP and was delimited to 320 km/h. The reason for winning this test was the 5 gear automatic transmission. While other cars with manual transmission are loosing speed when they change from the 5th to the 6th gear. The automatic transmission is always giving you the maximum torque.

Hard to believe a stock Benz would beat out a Lamborghini Murcielago at anything related to speed.
What about E55 vs. SL55 - what would be the difference to 300?
