Performance Catalysts

Hi- has anyone swapped their stock AMG cats for aftermarket performance items ?

I was looking at magnaflow 200 cpi metal cats - in places I read the standard factory items are usually 400 cpi and if that is the case with the e55 that would mean a bit more air flow ??

I don't want to go down the route and buy these ctas to find out that the AMG ones are performace items anyway with 200cpi...

By the way there is nothing wrong with my current cats so not doing this for maintenance only trying to get some more hp from engine..

If anyone has already done this and had good results can you share info on make/model/prices of cat etc if its too expensive for very little gain I won't be bothering...

on the other board, they are sayng 300cpi is the most you can go, otherwise i think the 02 sensors will start acting up... stock is somewhere in the 400-500 range, very restrictive, your right. most people are just removing the secondary set of cats to improve flow. might want to do that instead. hey, its cheaper too! LOL

good luck man!
Aj

P.S: if you have removed the resonator and installed an x-pipe in place, thats the first thing i would do. i picked up about 20rwhp from that alone! not to mention, the sound is amazing!

i dunno man...i dynoed 300rwhp and 333rwtq. thats a significant amount higher then what typical stock E55s do...unless i have a "unique" beast... 99-01's do in the 280 range. 02' do in the 300 range. i have an 01', so obviously, something is up. the car def felt stronger too in the mid to upper range. i really just wanted a louder sound, and i go it. next thing to go is my secondary cats!

Thanks for all the replies so far... Any one with any experience with cat replacement ?? can confirm 200 cpi is gonna mess things up ? or can give some details of a setup that works ?

02' being last yr, the AMG boys went gung ho about the build and supposedly went all out... there has been discussion that 02's generally dyno 20rwhp higher then the others. i don't know why, but its a fact...

i don't blame the engine builders, ****, last model, they can do all the crazy stuff they want to!!! and it happen to work in our favor!
