Drag racing techinique?
Hey guys
so im running the E55 on sunday for fun. i went last yr but ran a measly 13.8 @ 102mph . i could hook and i kept trying different configuration with the manual shifting. the best thing that worked was keeping it in 3rd with TC off.
this time, i'll do 3rd with emptyin out the car's additional weight, like the spare tire!!! i also now have the x-pipe in there, should make a huge difference!
but, heres the question, do i remove the intake system on the car so the engine gets better air flow? thoughts on this???

E55.....AMG
drop the rear tyre pressure to around 20 psi and pump the fronts up as much as they can take.
i wouldn't touch the intake as you could suck something in and destroy the engine plus it might not run right.
Add some octane booster to your fuel and reset your ecu a few days before to allow the ecu time to adapt to the higher octane fuel.
Also loose weight where you can like spare whee,l tools, back seats.

well, yet another day of ****ty runs. the track was soo cold and prep was not nice at all, i did a lot of spinning... plus, i have bald tires, which doesn't help.
Ran a best of 13.85 @ 103mph. speed it there, time is suffering. reaction time is 0.024 to 0.211's, so thats pretty good. 60' are 2.1 and 2.2 consistently, which is ok since im on street tires... i ran it in 3rd gear. pretty much comes to the top of 3rd so thats fine.
if i tried manual shifting, the pause b/w shifts kills my time, i ran like a 14.95 @ 99. so i found it best to leave it in 3rd and go.
i took out the spare tire too. ohh, i also pulled out the air filter and ran it open air, and it still made 13.90 @ 103mph. that didn't do a damn difference...
i wonder whats up?
I will prolly do the secondary cat delete. put some straights in place. im looking forward to someone having a vid of the cat/res delete!!!

- You should be doing this on fresh new tires, your times are severely held back by your 60 ft
-I wouldn't manual shift, I'd pull up to the line in standard mode, 4th gear selected, and let the trans do the work itself
- Traction control button should be off, meaning the warning triangle is illuminated
- What size wheels are you running? If factory 18's then ok but if 19's then you don't have a lot of sidewall to work with to cushion the launch shock
-I have my secondary cats deleted with no resonator, straight pipe from the primaries to the muffler, car sounds awesome and is definitely peppier. I'll see if I can put up a video

as for the drag racing, yea, i know the tires were prolly killing me... i did have wheel spin, not to mention track temp was like 60* F tops! it was cooooold!
i am still on 18s. new tires going on are going to be 285 or 295's. so that will help. i tried 4th as well, but it never went into 4th. i ended up in top of 3rd everytime. but im not racing this car anymore. just went once to see what she would do... thanks for the tips though!

No CEL's, the 02 sensors are right after the primaries. The secondary cats are just that - secondary - so they don't affect how the car looks at emissions as far as the OBD. Will try to get a video and pics up soon.

You mean the one where all the banned members from here end up? Not sure, maybe after Omeyhomey sees what I did he'll start calling it HIS "Official secondary cat removal mod" like he does with everything else.
