Headlight bulb replacement

Alright guys...I realize there are a few threads on this topic, but I haven't found what is specific to my problem. I bought some HID bulbs to replace the stock HID bulbs from ebay. I took off the cover and the ignitor and notice the components don't match. On the new bulb I have a positive and negitive wire. On the car I don't see where these wires hook up or even how to take out the bulb.

I need to know how to take out the old bulbs and install the new ones.

something doesn't sound quite right, X. do you happen to have pic of your new
bulb? generally, HID bulbs don't have wires hanging off them so I'm intrigued.

you may have purchase HID bulbs, but the are Franken-rebased bulbs designed
for a headlight which was not made for HIDs....though I'm not familiar enough
with the various base designed to tell you which one you bought.

I'm of the understanding that your 00 E55 has factory equipped HID, which I
believe is a reflector design, ergo should be using D2R bulb. does the headlight
design look like this....?

...if so, it should be using a D2R bulb, which looks like this....

...and does not have wires connected/protruding from the rear.

in left rear, you can see the red female socket connector which mates to the
bulb.

follow up: judging from your 2nd clearer, photo, kinda looks like you may have
purchased a rebased H7 HID bulb for a projector based, HID headlight ? ¿

Yo man, you purchased a fake and illegal HID bulb. Those will not fit your OEM headlamps. If you want plain old replacement for your D2R they are under $100 at NAPA and upgrade D2R by PIAA are found on tirerack.com for a lot more.

Yes, my headlights look like that, and I think my bulbs in the car now look like that, but I'm not totally sure since I'm not too sure how to get them out of the car. So I pretty much have the totally wrong thing?

It isn't just plain old replacements, though yes as far as them fitting, I want 8000K to match my fog lights. But it seems those are wrong too since I believe they are from a similar company.

So lets start over.....I need 8000K bulbs for my headlights, and now possibly (although they are already installed) fog light bulbs..I need to know than where can I get them resonably priced and what type am I looking for.

I need D2R bulbs correct? Which do I need for the fog lights? No, they aren't projectors. How do I know if they are fake?

do you have an owner's manual? check for fog light type...though my calculated
guess says it's an H1. yes, you bought the wrong bulb type/size for your
low beams.

insofar as 'up'grading to 8000ºK, just so you are aware, you *will* lose a
noticable amount of brightness/lumens by going with that color/temperature.

"whether they are fake...." if you see something, just post a link and add to
this thread. lot of folks who are more savvy with lighting will pool their
collective wisdom and advise accordingly. I'm thinking that D2Rs should run
you < $100 @ pair.

the fog lamp bulb in the W210 AMG and those with the AMG body kits use H3 bulb in fogs. Many sources list the H1 bulb which is the bulb for non AMG kit cars.

And is this all I need is H3 bulbs or is it something else for HID bulbs. Like how the low beams are D2R?

both are non OEM products. If you want assurance of quality, stick with Osram, Philips manufacturers. the ones you cited above are aftermarket
items. note also how they skirt around giving the actual name of the
manufacturer. kind of like the auctions/ads which say "AMG style".

if you buy the above items the quality is unknown and unproven. Osram and
Philips probably wont cost any more than about $10-20 above these unknowns.

FYI, Replacing your fog light with HID is not as simple as plug & play. The H3 HID bulb is longer on both end. so you have to modify your fog light hosing to make it fit. No big deal it jsut time consuming

Alright guys, I finally got the correct bulbs.

Now I need to know how to take the old ones out to install the new. I took the black cover off and now I'm not sure what to do and don't want to break anything. Please help me.

Thanks!

Just like they should. Nevermind, I figured it out and had them both in in 5 minutes.

They look great. I'll have pics later when it's dark.
