Unlike you I drive 140 every day 365, no bubles or notion of jealous neighbors and can tell that if anything every time someone see's 140 they think old slow Benz driven by an old fart and try to pass and not get out of the way. So there is very little difference between this 140 stalian and your way of thinking. Seeing things that are not there is a way of life for you.
I would not need yur exotic E, cool dude, too small for my family and who are you kidding-it will take a will of GOD for you to sell that car. 2000 miles in 10 month---- sounds like you intend to keep it "till death do you part".

Eddy, family too large for an E-Class - sounds like "henpecked" husband speak for "Wife won't let me buy an E55"! What type of Minivan you driving?

If my wheels get stolen I will just buy another set. I won't have to wait for the insurance company to get rolling - I have 4 complete sets of wheels and tires lying around.

Whether I drive my E55 everyday or once a week is my choice. Yes, my choice and not anyone else's nor do I have a nagging wife or snotty nosed kids dictating what or when to drive. ENVIOUS?

Fast Eddy, it is good having a choice. Guess what? I drove the E55 to the office twice this week. But tommorrow a snow storm is coming to DC and East Coast and you know I will not be driving my "quasi-exotic"!

Eddy, an E55 may not be an 'exotic' but it is no commuter car for driving to and from work or running errands. It is designed for fun and sprited driving and it is way beyond daily driver duty.

 

I disagree - a sedan such as this is designed exactly for that purpose - the duality of having a car you can drive to the market for milk and still take on the twisties and freeways like a sportscar. If it were not intended for the dual purposes, it would be just like any other 2-seater sports car with no trunk or passenger space...

 

Let me clarify.

Having a E55 is wonderful, however, if the owner 'only' used it for daily driving, commuting and running errands that would be a waste. If the car is solely driven like a family car and just deemed transportation that would also be a waste.

AMG cars should be driven like 'a bat out of hell' sometimes.

I just bought an '03 E320 today...turned in my bmw 328Ci lease...it's a beautiful car....black on charcoal...I can't wait to dump some 19" AMGs or Brabus' on it.

Mercedes makes the E320 to sell as a daily driver. It equips them with Michelin Energy tires so it will drive and corner gently. The E55 or earlier outrageous version doesn't have to work very hard to do the things that the six cylinder can do while driving gently. It comes with larger, performance tires on wider rims, very different sway bars and better brakes. It handles like a sportscar, rides comfortably, and is a prime example of what Mercedes really likes to do very frequently: Make a powerful, smooth muscle car, that is reliable, fast, and predictable, and says "Made by Mercedes-Benz". This tells the educated person all he would need to know. People don't by Rolex watches because they tell time better either! P.

 

AMG55:weight dif.between CL55 and CL600 is marginal,Torque dif.significant,so I expect more efortless,superior performance.
Ordered sport pkge and basically everything else 'cept tire pressure monitor that never works properly anyway.
This time ,I also wanted to have the pleasure of driving the top Benz.
S8 was superb automobile,probably the best I ever had but had too many miles(I put 25k a year average) and with new body style coming out ,became outdated.
In winter I'm planing to drive my CL like previously the 55.
Today dealer called,they have the rim,I should get it within 5 days.
