Your Recommendation ON Senthetic oil
Forums after forums on this discussion but after reading countless threads the questions still remains stick with Mobil 1 ??? My question is what do you recommend this is a 01 E55 has around 100k and running strong thanks to Jimmy(Hola) I want to continue the run. I am looking to keep this car for at least a year and move on to the new E55 but as with all of my cars that I've own I WANT NOTHING BUT THE BEST......
Should I keep her running Mobil 1 or should I look into RP? It sounds great but it seems to have a very short life span....
Soooo I'm asking the pros.. Your Input

it's also an oil on the thinner side of specs, with 100k+miles the OP said he has i doubt thinner is better for the long run
2). Mobil 1 paid money to Daimler to have that sticker placed there
3). just because it's recommended in the manual doesn't mean it's the best oil for the car
BMW recommends Castrol, is Castrol best oil out there, i don't think so
use whatever you please, just change it more often than recommended, look at the oil filter you'll understand why

Everyone is right, though never heard about RP having short life. How many miles are you looking to get? You still have to change the filter, don't forget, no matter the life of the oil. At least 3K miles for a filter.
I recently put RP last oil change, and everything is great...but do you want to spend $9 buck a quart for 8.2-8.5qts? If so do it! I did. By the way, 113,500 miles and counting.
One more thing...make sure you stay synthetic

i was telling him to use M1 0W-40 b/c if you're feeding her fresh oil every 5k miles, no need to spend $9+/qt on engine oil, unless he tracks the car regularly or the car does 140+MPH on the 'bahn. M1 is so much cheaper!

I'm staying with Mobil 1. My last car, an '88 BMW e28 M5, ran on Mobil 1 changed every 12k for most of it's 175k miles. When we sold it oil consumption was the same as when we bought it in '89 and the insides looked virtually new.

RP performs well, but I am actually more impressed with that Penrite brand...they don't use extra additives to get the performance like RP does, but it still did almost as well in the test.
I just worry with RP, about what exactly is in that Synerlec stuff they add to the oil?
There are only a couple ways to get that kind of performance out of an oil, either going with a teflon-based additive or going with a chlorine-based additive, and neither one is particularly good for the long-term health of an engine.
I am also extremely disappointed in Mobil1...as with everything else these days, they continue to cheapen the product while increasing the price...
