gas is almost $4.00/gal, crunched some #s..
so the mini is about $22k + tax ($1300), and let's pretend i can get $15.5k for the E55 = that's $8000 in cash.
then i crunched some more #s, i drive 7000-8000 miles/yr, and i calculated that I spend about $1650 per yr in gas with the E55. If I get the MINI, it'll be $950 per yr, = savings of $700 per year.
so to recoup the $8000 upfront costs, i'd have to wait 11 yrs.
of course this is taking into account that the e55 will not demand $$$ repairs or depreciation rate of both cars.

When you bought your E55, I would think if nothing else told you it wasn't the most economical car to drive, it would have been tire cost alone. If you want to truly get freaked out on what each mile costs to drive the beast just figure in tires and brakes. It's substantial, assuming your using Pilot Sports and not cheap brakes.
As I said though, I do feel your pain at the pump. A few days ago I had my first $80+ fill-up!!
But still I love the car and love to drive it.
I bought it new 99 (2000) and still enjoy it a lot. The only car I have thought about trading it in for is a W211!! Maybe there's a MiniCooperWorld forum you can join

If you want to save money take the public transportation once in a while, or carpool
At $10 US a gallon I am sure you would moan then!! I was shocked at how cheap fuel was in the States when I worked there last year! You guys have it lucky. Your government isnt trying to screw you for every penny you have. I wont go into other taxes!

The Government are also setting road-tax for cars that have high CO2 ratings at £950 per year ($1873).
AMG ownership has never been so expensive....
...unless you live in Switzerland apparently.

Hold on a second. Why are you considering mini when judging from your calculations, it would take 11 years to recoup the cost of switching? To me, $700 a year in gas savings doesn't seem like a big deal when you consider how much enjoyment you get out of driving an AMG vs driving something like a mini. You only live once, you have to enjoy what you drive

oh, sorry for not making myself clear. the point of my thread was that after the calculations, it was clear that switching is definitely not worth the effort & extra $. AMG is here to stay

Well since after today I will have both, I will have fun in the Mini when the bucks get tight and the E55 one full week after payday.
It don't get any better than this!
