Trading Up or Am I?
Greetings All.
Ok So i am preparing/considering to trade my w210 E55. Desire is an 2004 -06w211 E55. From consumer reviews to dealer service writer concerns, my desired vehicle has its share of issues. Creature comforts withstanding, my question is, which year would any of you recommend i stay away from?

I believe the later build 05s and the 06s also had the upgraded steering setup from the CLS, which the 211 guys all seem to agree handles much better than the older 03 to early 05 build models.

Yes, 05+ has better steering rack from CLS. I don't know the exact cutoff... but it seems it has to be 11/04+ or 8/04+ as these were when the two minor interior changes happened (11/04+ has aluminum pedals; 8/04+ has newer sliding center console instead of clam-shell console like '03-04).
If you plan to mod your car, your best bet would be '05 that hasn't been flashed recently by stealership. AFAIK, the new software and standard software on '06 has torque limiter that some, if not most, tuners don't know how to remove them.
'03 may not be a bad bet if you find a well-maintained car with clean VMI or whose most parts have been replaced already. Either way, get one w/ plenty warranty left.
Good luck! As the previous owner of W210 E55, you'll love the extra power W211 has.
