Has anybody ever driven a W210 E36 AMG?

I'd be interested to know what they're like to drive and if there's a big difference between that and my V8 E55....

yes there's a big noticeable difference in torque,
the e36 i drove also had it's suspension a little tired, bad euro roads will do that.

yes E36 is slower, but as far as rarity, E36 has to be one of the rarest AMGs around, G36 as well too. C36 is far more common than those two.

i have a E36 and not having had the pleasure of driving a E55 can't really compare. However I would say that i expect the E55 to have far more grunt from a standing start and it will also get there significantly quicker.
the 3.6 engine has an "angry" idle and goes plenty fast enough for me at the moment. i intend to upgrade to the E55 in the future if i can't stretch to the w124 500E!

I'm so jealous, If your car wasn't RHD I would buy it in a heartbeat. I want E36 so bad, E55 was amazing but E36 is a whole different level of rarity, + with potential of 5spd swap, having a 5spd E36 would be truly amazing, 1of1

I test drove an E36, there are about 200 of them or something along those lines in Australia. I've also driven a mates dad's E55 about 3 years ago. Huge difference in torque, but then again, huge difference in engine size. Everything else is basically the same, power go the E55, fuel economy and rarity go the E36 (if you can ever find one)!

I ended up going with a w211, granted the engine size and speed isn't as good, but Sydney roads are so congested it doesn't make any difference here, best get the smallest engine of any Mercedes but get everything on it.

Airflow meter is common to play up and cause rough idle
