Thinking of purchasing w210 e55 how does it compare to g35?
Hey guys
I had an 03 Infiniti g35 slightly modded for about 2 years, 0-60 in about 5.8-6.0 14.4 1/4mi
pretty fast car and handling was awesome with the sports package.
I was really impressed when I stumbled upon specs of w210 e55,
I never drove one but my G35 is gone now and I have found an e55 to buy 300mi away.
My question is how would an e55 compare to a g35 sedan? How is the handling in comparison. Im liking the styling of an e55 outside but interior looks a bit dated compared to the g35 , also size of the e55 has me concerned just a bit , for some reason i think that it might handle like a boat.
My gf has a 1999 e320 and even though the ride is comfortable it reminds me of my lincoln continental i hope e55 is not like it.
thanks for any input

The E55 is much faster than the G36 (especially after 60mph which is where the E55 really shines). The E55 has a more classical design but the build quality & material quality is MUCH better than what you would find in a G35. The W210 E55 also has rack & pinion so it actually handles very well and it only weighs 3750ish which is hardly heavy by today's standards. It feels well built & planted, but it doesn't feel "heavy" like an S-class or newer built E55, its still a midsized car compared to the new E55 is a full sized sedan. Go with the E55, you won't regret it.

I rented a sedan G37 with 2300 mile on it for the weekend while they install my Kleemann head and I can tell you it very disappointing for 330hp. Transmission shift to rough, it automatic mode it feel lworst than a maual transmission. There a big lag when you press on the gas due to it drive by wire, worst than our car. Dang car come with everything except heated seats

no steering wheel paddle shifter just tiptronic like our car. But if you use the tiptronic 6-spd and shift at reline it very fast.

also there a analog clock in the middle of the dash.

The aftermarket for a g35 is extensive. HKS, Greddy, Stillen, APS, Cosworth to name a few all have stuff for G35.
The w210 is heavy,... heavy enough that my NA C55 can walk on a supercharger w210 E55 and has at the drag stip.
I've went for ride with the owner of dyno-comp (local tune shop here in AZ) in an APS twin turbo G35 and that car with out a doubt will destroy my C55. Then we went for a ride in a 450whp Cosworth APS twin turbo G35 and that car was out of line fast.
On the other hand
The stock bottom end is not strong on the G35. I've personally seen a G35 shoot a piston rod though the side of the block leaving a whole you could put your thumb in. The G35 can get some Camaro style rattles... if you know what i mean.
My verdict
Choosing between these two cars is hard. Maybe you should add a 3rd car to the mix. C32?? C55??? M3?? S4??. If performance on a budget is what you are after the C32 has the potential to put down 400whp+ for a rather modest buck.

The only benefit I see of the G35 over the E55 is the fact the G35 can be had in an AWD configuration, which will be awesome in harsh weather conditions that the E55 would lack in (without snow tires). That being said, really you can't compare the Infiniti to the Benz, it doesn't have the same impact, or is even considered among the same level of rarity and uniqueness that is every AMG model.

If you want to be practical and conservative than get the G35, you can't go wrong there. Buying a used W210 E55 will required lots of maintaince not to meantion if you get one that has problems than you going to have a money pit on your hand. Weight your descision base on your income. Ask yourself if something major break down can you afford to fix it or how handly are you with DIY repair.
I would never advised a family member or personal friend to buying a 7yr old plus car over a newly used G35. But if he got money to through away than go ahead and have fun![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
But that just my opinion. Good Luck with what ever you choose.![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

Guys I did have a G35 for over 2 years, time for a change so im certainly not getting another one, I just wanted opinions on how it compares.
Right now an e55 2001 with 103,000mi is at the top of my list but for $3000 more i can get a 2000 m5 with 150,00mi, also in the back of my list is a c32 a 745i (02) but I have heard to many complaints on reliability with those, a c36 or c43 will do as well if not too far from me and for a good price

if you're concerned about reliability on c32/745i, i'd probably skip the M5 w/ 150k miles as well. i've not heard good things on M5's, esp on the earlier models, and even the interior is not as good as the later 02-03 M5's.

I just ditched a 93 Infiniti J30 . . . piece of junk and glad to see it ago. Comparatively my two older Mercedes (84 380SL and 99 E55 AMG) are works of art. You can really tell how a car is put together when you observe how well it ages.

I have driven a couple G35's, and just bought an E55. The difference between the two is not subtle. Specifically, torque is the difference.
Personally, I think the G35 handles like it's been eating too much at the buffet: it feels bigger than it is, and it doesn't inspire confidence in me. The E55 is big, but it handles with confidence. This is my subjective opinion, even though the G35 probably pulls a higher slalom/skidpad (or other objective handling metric).
