Twin airboxes from a W211 E55K has to be the best out there for a N/A W210 E55.

Would that be bolt on or require some work to fit?

I'm using a cold air intake I got off ebay and the gains are pretty noticable.. RPM's jump alot faster and the response overall is good.

Just slapping on a W211 airbox won't add much power, you have to get into the ECU and tune it to allow more air into the engine (did that on my N/A E55) after you've done that you'll notice a few more mids and HP with the more high flowing W211 airboxes. And then specially on a N/A engine with that ram-air effect.

how do you tune your ECU to allow more air into your engine ? for N/A engine search forum and you will find dyno# between renntech/211box and stock intakes

cheers

It's when you do a unique ECU tune in a dyno (rolling highway), not a normal pre-tuned program where you download a new software into your cars ECU.

When I did mine unique tune, the tuner allowed the MAF to give the engine more air, and if you combine that with a better flowing intake you will get more power and torque.

Also should say that all small parts count, so lets say a couple of headers, exhaust and ECU will most likely let the new airbox to do a better job then a stock airbox.

Where did you get your unique ECU tune done?

Honestly, the 211 filters look smaller than the 210 filters. I assume this is because they had to make them smaller to fit the supercharger. This would indicate that they flow less than the stock filter.

Have you tried switching back to the stock W210 to compare, post tune?

The Kompressor airboxes do technically make more HP but honestly they don't look nearly as nice & neat as the OEM AMG airbox. The simplest route is to just throw in a set of K&N filters and call it a day, there isn't that much more power to be squeezed out on the intake side of the engine. Majority of the gains are to be had by upgrading the exhaust side of the engine where most of the restriction occurs.

This is an old thread you are looking at. Anyway, I would recommend, besides getting the RennTech Carbon Fiber "bubble butt" airbox, the other route would be to gut out the line of plastic fin looking things in the OEM box and smooth it out. Throw in a pair of K&N filters and you could get some mid range hp and torque as the air is not as restricted without the fins. You can use a Drummel cutter to cut them out and sand down the cover.
