160k is nothing, really, of course if properly maintained...
people are just too scared and don't keep cars long enough these days, too disposable of an item...

I meant clutch packs. The K3 clutch pack always wears out the fastest b/c its a smaller clutch pack and it is used more than any other clutch pack. I've seen W208 & W210 AMGs wear out their 722.6 as early as 50k, so mileage is not a guarantee of anything.

What would make them wear out that fast?

Aggressive stop and start driving that causes quick gear shifts. Highway miles will involve very few gear changes. City or track miles will cause a lot more. You would have to drive hard so the TCU learns to shift hard and fast. Even with a lot of gear changes, if you drive smoothly, the tranny will shift smoothly, and the clutches should wear much slower.

The K3 clutch pack is used in EVERYTHING except full throttle 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Its used in pretty much everything else including downshifts & neutral & reverse. Dynoing your car in 3rd gear will help preserve your tranny longer than trying to do it in 4th. Also, if you do alot of aggressive highway pulls it can shorten the life of your tranny (WOT going from 3rd-4th, 4th-5th will definitely speed up the process). If you are really paranoid you can always drive the car in 3rd gear for city driving. Also, using W mode does help as well so your car will only used 2nd & 3rd gear for normal city driving. Also, Having a Stage 4+ car does not help either lol. Luckily the 1st-3rd clutch packs are much larger & stronger so they can still take the full abuse of a highly modded NA car over long term (but forced induction is a different story).
